- Builds on initial order of 75 locomotives in 2018, with the first having entered service in February 2022
- 125 cleaner, faster, more efficient engines will be in service by 2029
- The Charger Locomotive is the most energy-efficient Tier 4 passenger locomotive in the industry
- The total contract value of up to $2 billion includes the original contract for $850 million
Amtrak, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation of the United States, has ordered an additional 50 Charge Locomotives from Siemens Mobility. Together with the initial order of 75 locomotives in 2018, the 125 diesel-electric units are an important part of Amtrak’s sustainability initiative and are considerably more environmentally friendly than their 1990’s predecessors. The total contract value of up to $2 billion includes the original contract for $850 million and incorporates both the manufacturing as well as the long-term service agreement for technical support, spare parts, and material supply.
- Highlight: sustainable hydrogen solution for residential boilers
- Intelligent, digitalized heat interface unit for multi-family apartment buildings
- LMV6 burner management system for medium and high capacity burners boosts efficiency
- New function for self-optimizing dynamic valves saves up to 30% energy
At Mostra Convegno Expocomfort (MCE)
trade show, Siemens Smart Infrastructure will present a completely renewed
portfolio designed to accelerate the decarbonization of commercial, industrial,
and residential buildings. Under the motto “Transform the Everyday,” Siemens
will also display products and solutions for original equipment manufacturers
(OEMs) that make buildings more efficient, digital, connected, and comfortable.
MCE will take place from June 28 to July 1 in Milan, Italy.
Whether for workpiece handling, retooling, postprocessing or parallel
machining, robots and machine tools are working ever more closely together.
Companies in almost all industrial sectors already benefit from robots today.
But integrating robots into automation and exploiting their full potential poses
many challenges. Under the motto "Seamless and fast integration of robot
kinematics into automation", Siemens will be presenting at this year's
automatica (Hall B6, Booth 302) how companies can overcome these
challenges and how the digital and real worlds can be connected through
robotics and automation solutions.
- Upgrades to help improve infrastructure, support operational excellence and enhance student living-learning experience
As part of its 10-year strategic plan, ‘Transformation Morgan
2030: Leading the Future,’ Baltimore-based Morgan State University (MSU) has
partnered with Siemens on its journey to becoming a smart and connected campus
of the future. Improvements currently underway include implementing a series of
modernization upgrades to the university’s heating, ventilation, and air
conditioning (HVAC), security, and fire and life safety systems with a focus on
energy efficiency, resiliency and sustainability. All work is umbrellaed under
a master service agreement between Maryland Clean Energy Center, Siemens and
MSU to support the university’s campus transformation.
- Siemens to supply ultra-fast charging units on highways connecting the seven emirates
- The Ministry and Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in October 2021 to work together on sustainability and digitalization initiatives in the energy and infrastructure sectors
- The EV Charging Corridor is the first project to be delivered under the MOU framework
The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Energy and
Infrastructure selected Siemens technology for a nationwide network of
ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers which will help reduce carbon
emissions, boost adoption of EVs by addressing so-called range anxiety, and lay
the groundwork for a more connected and sustainable transportation system.
- The companies will work together to drive adoption of open, interoperable standards in wireless charging for global electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure
- Siemens makes strategic investment in WiTricity and licenses their technology for future wireless EV charging products
Siemens invests
USD 25 million and acquires a minority stake in U.S.-based WiTricity, a
wireless charging technology company. Siemens and WiTricity will work together
to drive innovation in the emerging market for wireless EV charging. This
market is expected to reach USD 2 billion by 2028 in Europe and North America
alone, according to Siemens’ calculations. The two companies seek to bridge the
gaps in the global standardization of wireless charging for electric passenger
and light duty commercial vehicles, to enable interoperability between vehicles
and infrastructure, as well as support market penetration. In addition, both
parties will collaborate to advance the technical development of wireless
charging systems.
