Fluorine gas-free energy distribution for medium-voltage applications
Fluorine gas-free switchgear is a hot topic in the energy sector because this new approach contributes to sustainable power distribution. On this page you will find all information about the sustainable switchgear portfolio from Siemens.
- Climate-neutral insulating medium “Clean Air” consists exclusively of components of ambient air
- Innovative load-break switch enables F-gas-free power distribution on the secondary distribution level, up to 24 kilovolts
- Same compact dimensions, consistent handling enable simple, future-proof transition to sustainable power distribution
Siemens Smart Infrastructure has introduced the 8DJH 24 switchgear, a ring main unit (RMU) for line voltages up to 24 kilovolts (kV), completely free of fluorinated gases. This medium-voltage switchgear for secondary electrical distribution has the same compact dimensions as the variant with sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) but uses the climate-neutral insulation medium “Clean Air”, which consists exclusively of natural components from ambient air. The core of the unit is a three-position load-break switch with vacuum interrupter in the auxiliary path (blue switch). This new technological development from Siemens eliminates SF6 as an insulating medium, as well as any gas mixture based on fluorine (F-gases). As a result, the new switchgear also reduces the CO2 footprint of grid operators. Other benefits include easy and safe handling of the switchgear and effortless recycling at the end of its service life. In addition to the high level of environmental compatibility, digital applications make the new switchgear future-proof and cost-efficient for the grid of tomorrow. The new unit has been in use since fall 2020 in a local substation in the Oberallgäu region of Germany as part of a development cooperation with German distribution grid operator Netze BW.
- New Sinamics DriveSim Basic software solution for fast and easy simulation of drive constellations
- Seamless integration of models into commercially available simulation programs
- Validated function units accelerate development phase
With Sinamics DriveSim Basic, Siemens presents a new software solution with which for the first-time drive constellations and their behavior in machines and plants can be simulated, adapted, and optimized. - Simotics SD motor series from Siemens is now consistently available in efficiency class Super Premium Efficiency (IE4)
- Exceeds increasingly stringent requirements of ErP Directive 2019/1781, which takes effect in two steps in July 2021 and July 2023
- Users can meet long-term efficiency standards, save energy, lower operating costs, and reduce CO2 emissions
Siemens is presenting the Simotics SD motor series as part of the Digital Enterprise Virtual Experience at the Hannover Messe 2021. The standard version of Simotics SD is offered in the efficiency class Super Premium Efficiency (IE4) across the entire power spectrum from 2.2 to 1,000 kW and for the number of poles 2, 4, as well as from 75 kW for 6 poles and from 55 kW for 8 poles. Simotics SD in IE4 thus exceeds the so-called ErP Directive 2019/1781 (energy-related products) – both the first stage, which will be valid by July 2021, as well as the next, which will apply from July 2023. The directive defines the eco-design requirements for electric motors and speed control systems.
