Fluorine gas-free energy distribution for medium-voltage applications

Fluorine gas-free switchgear is a hot topic in the energy sector because this new approach contributes to sustainable power distribution. On this page you will find all information about the sustainable switchgear portfolio from Siemens.
Our innovations enable our customers to make power distribution sustainable and at the same time future-proof. At Siemens, we believe that the only right technological approach is to replace fluorinated gases completely. That’s why we’re eliminating not only the climate gas SF6, but all F-gases and chemical additives.

The new F-gas-free Clean Air Ring Main Unit 8DJH 24 extends the Siemens blue GIS portfolio to 24 kV level and has integrated sensors and communications interfaces to higher-level automation and the Internet of Things (IoT) systems.

The new F-gas-free 24 kV ring main unit 8DJH 24 has been in use since fall 2020 in a local substation in the Oberallgäu region of Germany as part of a development cooperation with German distribution grid operator Netze BW.

The NXPLUS C 24 is the third medium-voltage switchgear from the Siemens blue GIS portfolio and the first with a rated voltage up to 24 kV (left). A ring-main unit (RMU) with the same rated voltage will join the blue GIS family as the next new member (right).

An innovative load-break switch equipped with a special vacuum interrupter is the new centerpiece for F-gas-free medium-voltage applications in secondary distribution grids from 12 to 24 kV.

The new load-break switch is a true three-position switch. The proven principal of the switch-off, disconnect and earthing functions used in SF6 load-break switchgear is continued.

SF6-free switchgear is a hot topic in the energy sector because this new approach can contribute to sustainable power distribution. Learn about the secret behind the innovative blue Switch from Siemens!
