- East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension equipped with new signaling system officially opens for revenue service
- 46 km East Rail Line now connects Chinese Mainland border, New Territories, Kowloon to Central Business Districts on Hong Kong Island
- Automatic train control system on the whole East Rail Line enhances operational efficiency
The East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension in Hong Kong successfully commenced passenger service on May 15, 2022, with Siemens Mobility’s Communications-Based Train Control system (CBTC). This completes the automation of the 46 km long East Rail Line connecting the Chinese Mainland border to the central business areas on Hong Kong Island and becomes the fourth railway line crossing Victoria Harbour. The Siemens Mobility digitalized signaling system helps provide passengers with the ability to reach the commercial, convention and financial hubs in the Wan Chai North and Admiralty areas in a faster, safer, and more seamless way.
- Transmission of Profinet IO packets via a private 5G network
- VXLAN as transmission technology embeds Profinet protocol
- Use of a central control system for multiple mobile participants reduces energy and maintenance costs
Siemens enables the transmission of Profinet IO
via a private 5G network, which allows data to be transmitted in real time for
industrial applications. This is made possible by the VXLAN (Virtual Extensible
LAN) transmission technology in the Scalance 5G routers and security appliances
from Siemens. VXLAN embeds the Profinet IO protocol, which is transmitted in
Layer 2, into Layer 3 packets, which allows them to be transmitted across
network boundaries. Since Layer 2 communication now takes place via 5G, a
central controller can communicate with decentralized I/O modules on mobile
devices such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs) via Profinet in a private 5G
network and no local controls have to be used on the individual AGVs. This
saves costs and reduces maintenance. At the Hannover Messe, visitors can see
this innovation at the booth of the organization "5G-ACIA" in Hall 9.
We released our second quarter results for fiscal 2022 on May 12, 2022. The conference call for journalists and the analyst call were broadcast live.
We join the
international community in condemning the war in Ukraine and are focused on
supporting our people and providing humanitarian aid.
Siemens will exit the Russian
market as a result of the Ukraine war. The company has started proceedings to
wind down its industrial operations and all industrial business
activities.
Siemens was one of the
first companies to put all new business in and international deliveries to
Russia on hold while it evaluated the situation to ensure the safety of its
3,000 employees in the country.
Siemens will
exit the Russian market as a result of the Ukraine war. The company has started

- New data center in Tallinn, Estonia, targets Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) value of 1.2, against industry average of around 1.6
- Siemens’ AI-powered software optimizes cooling for energy efficiency and reliable operation of critical infrastructure
- Customized power distribution systems from Siemens ensure reliable, safe power supply to the data center
- Data center is powered by renewable energy, with ability to sell waste heat
Siemens has deployed integrated data center
management software at the largest and most energy efficient data center in the
Baltic region. The building management software (BMS), the energy and power
management software (EPMS) and the White Space Cooling Optimization (WSCO) help
Greenergy Data Centers to lower energy usage, ensure thermal protection and
manage reliable operation of the critical infrastructure.
- Siemens will deliver energy efficiency improvement measures to immediately cut 10 percent of the University’s carbon emissions
- Subsequent project phases will see on-site, low-carbon energy production, and the installation of renewable generation infrastructure
- Partnership will create an inclusive talent pipeline for the green economy, and a ‘living lab’ for teaching and research
The University of East London (UEL) in the
United Kingdom has established a strategic partnership with Siemens to collaborate
on their aspiration of achieving net-zero carbon by 2030. Siemens will deliver
improvement measures to reduce overall energy use, and engineer solutions to drive
the shift to renewable and on-site low-carbon energy generation at UEL’s
campuses in the London Docklands and Stratford.
