Since
October 2019, Siemens Mobility and ViP (Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH) have been
jointly researching a fully automated tram depot. One year before, the
cooperation partners presented a test vehicle of an autonomous tram at
InnoTrans 2018. On this basis, the consortium started further research together
with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the Institute for Climate
Protection, Energy and Mobility (IKEM) and Codewerk GmbH. The market readiness
of the autonomous tram in the depot is planned for 2026.
The three-year project called “AStriD” (Autonomous Tram in Depot) is funded by the Federal Ministry for Transportation and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) as part of its “Modernity Fund” (mFUND) research initiative.
Siemens and SITA are providing the Kansas City Aviation Department with future-proof, scalable technologies for the Kansas City International (MCI) Airport’s New Terminal project, dubbed Build KCI.
- CBTC to be
installed on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid
Transit System
- First case
where CBTC technology is used on a cross border link
- Rail line will
ease current congestion, improve cross-border connectivity, and bolster
economic activity in the region.
Siemens
Mobility has been awarded a contract by RTS Operations to design, install and
commission a Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system and
Platform Screen Door System on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit (RTS)
Link. This will be the first ever case of CBTC technology being used on a cross
border rail link. The 4 km system connecting Johor Bahru, Malaysia and
Woodlands, Singapore will be operated by RTS Operations, a joint venture between
Singapore rail operator SMRT and Malaysian public transport firm Prasarana.
Once completed, the RTS Link will be able to transport an estimated 10,000 passengers an
hour in each direction, helping ease current congestion at existing border
entry points, improving cross-border connectivity and bolstering economic
activity in the region. The line will also be equipped with GoA 4, the highest grade
of automation that allows for trains to be automatically controlled and
operated.
- 20 Vectron MS multisystem
locomotives for maximum flexibility
- Service planned in eleven countries
along the Eastern Corridor
- Deliveries to begin in March 2022
Railpool, one of Europe’s leading rail vehicle rental companies, has
ordered 20 Vectron MS multisystem locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The locomotives
are intended for service in eleven countries along the Eastern Corridor (Germany,
Austria, Poland, Croatia, Czechia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria,
Romania, Serbia). The locomotives will be delivered in several phases beginning
in March 2022. Railpool’s fleet is currently comprised of more than 400 locomotives.
When deliveries of this first order for multisystem locomotives from Siemens
Mobility are completed, Railpool will have a total of 53 Siemens locomotives.
- Requirements-based function expansions for protection devices
designed for use in utilities, industrial plants or infrastructures
- License file easily created in seconds
Siemens Smart Infrastructure has launched a
new application for the Siprotec 5 and Siprotec 5 Compact series of protection
devices: In just a few seconds, customers can now generate new license files
for their protection device using a cloud-based app. This allows new device
functions to be enabled very quickly. These functions are added depending on
the type of application of the device, for instance to protect lines and motors
in the distribution network of utilities or industrial plants. Until
now, the ordering process for a license file took almost week.
- Meter Data
Management System enables timely and accurate collection of electricity meter
data digitally
- Technology
deployed for over 200,000 smart meters in North Delhi
- The
implementation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure will play a key role in the
deployment of smart grids across the country
Siemens Limited and Tata Power
Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) jointly announced the successful
deployment of Smart Metering Technology for over 200,000 Smart Meters in North
Delhi. The state-of-the-art EnergyIP Meter Data Management System installed and
commissioned by Siemens enables timely and accurate collection of electricity
meter data leading to increased visibility of the consumer network and
reduction in carbon emissions. The Advanced Metering Infrastructure
(AMI) program is one of Tata Power-DDL’s
key strategic initiatives for the modernization of the grid.
- Siemens Large Drives Applications (LDA) to deliver a high voltage (HV) motor with 105 MW and a 40 MW starting frequency converter for an energy storage project in China
- The motor will have an efficiency of beyond 98 percent
Siemens LDA has received an order from a Chinese customer to deliver a special machine with dual shaft extension. It can be used in motor operation with a power of 105 MW and as generator with up to 129 MVA in power generation mode. The motor will have an efficiency of beyond 98 percent and will be a world-leading 2-pole electric motor.
Beside the motor, the contract includes the delivery of a 40 MW Sinamics GL150 starting frequency converter. This LCI-converter (load commutated inverter) is designed for single-motor applications with variable and constant torque characteristics. As a result of the low switching losses and the low loss thyristor technology, the efficiency of the LCI converter is extremely high and lies at 99 percent.
