Digitalization, sustainability, shortage of skilled workers: Companies
in the process industry are currently facing major challenges. To prepare their
plants for the future, Siemens believes that operators must rely on a highly
flexible process control system. Against this backdrop, Siemens has now
launched both a new software version and new hardware components for its
Simatic PCS neo web-based process control system. With version 4.0, Simatic PCS
neo is now ready for plant capacities and large-scale projects of up to 64,000
process objects and 56 controllers – making it suitable for industrial plants
of all sizes.
- Analyze MyDrives Edge with new feature to optimize energy consumption
- Analyze MyDrives Edge is part of Siemens Xcelerator
- New compact DC/DC converter Sinamics DCP 250 kW
In the field of
energy-efficient and sustainable drive technology, Siemens is bringing two
innovations to this year's Smart Production Solutions (SPS) trade fair in
Nuremberg. The first innovation relates to the Analyze MyDrives Edge
application, which is already established on the market. This is equipped with
a new feature that ensures transparency regarding the energy consumption of the
entire drive system. The AI-based feature of the Edge app calculates all data
without the need for additional sensors and special measuring devices. The app
shows how efficiently the drive runs, how high energy consumption and operating
costs are and what carbon footprint the drive leaves behind. Drive settings can
thus be optimized even better to customer needs.

- Green Stay Initiative (GSI) is first global standard to enable more
sustainable business-travel lodging and meetings
- Beginning in 2023, Siemens to select its preferred supplier hotels
according to GSI sustainability criteria
- Open-source tool available for also enabling other companies to
reduce their carbon footprint
Siemens will be the first global company to introduce a mandatory Green Stay
Initiative (GSI) policy and request that hotels provide data about their
environmental impact. Together with the international service company HRS,
Siemens developed global, traceable, and standardized criteria by which the
carbon footprint of each individual hotel can be tracked and compared with others.
So far, there has not been a global standard for using traceable criteria to compare
hotel sustainability.

60,000 customers now
benefit daily from more space, greater comfort and more security cameras – new
483/484 series ensures reliable service
With immediate
effect, DB is completely converting the S8 line to its newest generation of
trains. The modern trains with their distinctive flat front are already
reliably operating on three of Berlin’s S-Bahn lines. As of today, around
60,000 passengers using the S8 will also benefit from better information, more
security cameras, and additional space for wheelchair users, strollers and
bicycles. Rather than operating with four cars, the new trains have six. In
addition, the S8 line has been extended from Birkenwerder to Wildau via Zeuthen
during peak traffic periods. Together with the S46, the two lines now ensure
environmentally friendly connections to the nearby Studentenstadt.
