- Concept study demonstrates the integration of Sinamics frequency converters to the Siemens Industrial Edge platform
- High-frequency data exchange and complex analysis of the drive train possible
- Paving the way for new business models
At the Hannover Messe 2020, Siemens presents a
concept study that demonstrates the integration of a Sinamics drive system to
the Siemens Industrial Edge platform. In future, it will be possible to perform
high-frequency data exchange in drive technology using an Edge device. The integration
of Sinamics frequency converters to an Edge device enables users of machines
and applications to perform complex analyses of data that is already collected
in the drive. Machine learning algorithms identify patterns and detect anomalies
and their causes, providing early indications of necessary maintenance. This minimizes
downtimes and reduces the consumption of resources. For example, in intralogistics applications
the belt tension can be monitored for a storage and retrieval machine. The
belts, which are driven by a motor and frequency converter, require a specific
tension so that the application runs smoothly. If the visualization of the data
analyses shows irregularities in the drive system, then belt maintenance can be
triggered promptly, for example.
- Siemens and UL Solutions demonstrate a transformative shift from relying
solely on physical tests to reliable integrating digital simulations.
- Reduced costs, accelerated time-to-market and seamless integration of
digital modeling tools will redefine the future of verification.
- Siemens’ digital twin technology breaks through traditional testing
boundaries, serving as a testament to the industrial metaverse’s potential
for reshaping product development possibilities.
For the first time ever, an industrial product has been certified for the United States
after parts of the required tests were conducted through digital simulation. That
simulation was verified and validated with physical testing. This remarkable
achievement is a global first in a national safety-certification process. To make this
advance possible, Siemens collaborated with UL Solutions, an esteemed global
leader in applied safety science. The result is a testimony to the remarkable
accuracy and reliability of modern digital twin simulations. It marks a step forward
into a future in which digital twins and the industrial metaverse streamlines product
development, enhances innovation, safety and accelerates time-to-market.
Whether for workpiece handling, retooling, postprocessing or parallel
machining, robots and machine tools are working ever more closely together.
Companies in almost all industrial sectors already benefit from robots today.
But integrating robots into automation and exploiting their full potential poses
many challenges. Under the motto "Seamless and fast integration of robot
kinematics into automation", Siemens will be presenting at this year's
automatica (Hall B6, Booth 302) how companies can overcome these
challenges and how the digital and real worlds can be connected through
robotics and automation solutions.
- Simotics SD motor series from Siemens is now consistently available in efficiency class Super Premium Efficiency (IE4)
- Exceeds increasingly stringent requirements of ErP Directive 2019/1781, which takes effect in two steps in July 2021 and July 2023
- Users can meet long-term efficiency standards, save energy, lower operating costs, and reduce CO2 emissions
Siemens is presenting the Simotics SD motor series as part of the Digital Enterprise Virtual Experience at the Hannover Messe 2021. The standard version of Simotics SD is offered in the efficiency class Super Premium Efficiency (IE4) across the entire power spectrum from 2.2 to 1,000 kW and for the number of poles 2, 4, as well as from 75 kW for 6 poles and from 55 kW for 8 poles. Simotics SD in IE4 thus exceeds the so-called ErP Directive 2019/1781 (energy-related products) – both the first stage, which will be valid by July 2021, as well as the next, which will apply from July 2023. The directive defines the eco-design requirements for electric motors and speed control systems.
- Siemens Industrial Edge closes the gap between local and cloud computing and enables high-frequency data exchange at field level
- Edge apps for intelligent data analysis and increased productivity
- Industrial Edge includes a backend, Edge devices and Edge apps in Edge Management
With Siemens Industrial Edge, Siemens offers a digitalization solution that adds machine-level data processing to automation devices, by taking the intelligence of Edge computing and thus, sophisticated analytics securely to manufacturing level. Siemens Industrial Edge offers users the opportunity to execute a wide range of intelligent analytics applications. Cloud connectivity is used in conjunction with Edge applications in an integrated hardware and software ecosystem for automation components.
Under the motto"Make it real", Siemens will be
presenting at SPS in Nuremberg on how the real and digital world can be
combined so that companies become Digital Enterprises. Experience the Siemens solutions and experts
live at the SPS booth (Hall 11) in Nuremberg and
learn more about how they support costumers in the digital transformation.

- High-frequency data exchange between Sinamics drives and the Industrial Edge platform
- Drive System Framework for connectivity, management, and configuration of the Digital Twin
- Paving the way for new business models
As part of
the Digital Enterprise SPS Dialog, Siemens is launching Analyze MyDrives Edge,
its first edge application for drives. The company is thus demonstrating in
concrete terms how edge computing can make Sinamics drive systems even more
intelligent and what benefits users and machine builders can derive from it.
Analyze MyDrives Edge is being launched with basic functionalities similar to
the proven Mindsphere application Analyze MyDrives but will be enhanced with
intelligent features based on high-frequency data exchange. The Edge
application thus allows users of machines and industry applications to perform
complex analyses of data that is already collected in the drive. Machine
learning and AI algorithms on which the edge application is based identify
patterns and detect anomalies and their causes, thus providing timely
indications of any pending machine maintenance. This minimizes downtimes and
reduces the consumption of resources.
