- Building X, the new smart building suite for net-zero buildings, will be a key highlight at Light + Building 2022
- New portfolio of digital services for fire safety and the latest version of Desigo CC, Siemens’ integrated building management system, will be shown for the first time
- Focus on reliable and energy-efficient electrical installation and power distribution, addressing grid complexity and integration of renewables
At this year’s Light + Building trade fair
in Frankfurt, Germany, Siemens will showcase its vision of digitalization as a
key pillar of the infrastructure transition required to tackle climate change
and global sustainability challenges. The company’s motto at the show is “Smart infrastructure is sustainable
infrastructure”, and Siemens will be demonstrating products, solutions and
services to make the transition of buildings and grids possible.
Siemens Mobility and Cattron presented the
next development phase of the government-funded research project Autonomous
Tram in Depot today at InnoTrans 2022: remote train operation (RTO). The world
premiere marks the next critical milestone for RTO in the project and was
successfully presented today to the project organizer TÜV Rheinland at the
depot of the public transportation company ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH.
- Companies to work together to speed up energy transition
- Partnership to focus on green hydrogen projects at Shell and its customers
- Holland Hydrogen 1 project in Rotterdam key milestone in partnership to advance green hydrogen
Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Shell Global Solutions International BV have
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing
low-carbon and highly efficient energy solutions that support the energy
transition. The agreement will focus on projects that produce green hydrogen
for industrial applications at Shell and its customers, as well as enhancing
collaboration in the areas of biofuels and circular chemistry. Under the MoU,
Siemens and Shell will create solutions that increase energy efficiency and
generate sustainable power, consisting of, but not limited to, digitalization,
efficient networks, and the production, distribution, and application of green
hydrogen. The partnership, inked with Siemens’ Electrification and Automation
business unit, has the potential to strengthen synergies for both parties. While
Siemens intends to work with Shell to accelerate the latter’s transition towards
net-zero operations, Shell seeks to supply Siemens and its affiliates with low
carbon products that reduce emissions across the supply chain, in Siemens’
operations, and in the use phase of Siemens products, consisting of but not
limited to supply of biofuels.
- Siemens
Mobility to
retrofit 176 ViRM double deck rail vehicles with the latest ETCS onboard
technology
- Siemens Mobility will provide seven years of
maintenance services for ETCS system
Siemens Mobility has been
awarded a contract by NS Group N.V, the Dutch Railways, to retrofit 176 ViRM trains
with the latest European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 technology. With
the ETCS Level 2 upgrade, the fleet will be able to operate with a greater
degree of efficiency for the remainder of its lifetime, while also meeting the
latest European standards for rail safety interoperability. Siemens Mobility
will provide the ETCS onboard unit
equipment and installation support, as well as seven years of maintenance
services for the system. The retrofitted vehicles will be delivered in the
period 2023–2027.
- Siemens Mobility supported RATP and Ile-de-France
Mobilités in the complete automation of Line 4
- Siemens Mobility fully automated the line with its digitalized
systems and CBTC signaling technology
- The automation of Line 4 will centralize control of operations, increase availability, reliability, and
capacity
The
modernization of Line 4 of the Paris Metro has been completed with the highest
grade of automation and the automatic driverless metros have now begun revenue
service. The digitalization
and optimization of Line 4 will allow RATP to safely increase frequency by reducing intervals
between trains from 105 to 85 seconds. Chosen in
2015 by RATP to automate Line 4, Siemens Mobility supplied their digitalized
communication and CBTC signaling systems to modernize the network. After a
trial run with no passengers that began in June, the automation of Line 4 is now
a reality. More automatic driverless shuttles will be introduced into the
line's traffic over time to achieve full automation by the end of 2023.
-
Next milestone in the “H2goesRail” project
- Siemens CEO Roland Busch, DB CEO Richard Lutz and
State Secretary Hartmut Höppner take first test ride in the Mireo Plus H and test
the refueling process
- Innovative complete hydrogen system will be used in regular passenger service
as of 2024 and replace diesel trainset
- Hydrogen train and mobile fueling
station can be viewed at the InnoTrans2022
(Wegberg-Wildenrath,
September 9, 2022) Premiere ride in the new hydrogen train: Dr. Roland
Busch, CEO of Siemens AG, Dr. Richard Lutz, CEO of Deutsche Bahn, and Hartmut
Höppner, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV),
are taking their first ride in the Mireo Plus H hydrogen train today and will
then demonstrate the train’s refueling procedure using the mobile hydrogen
fueling station. The event will be held at the Siemens Test and Validation
Center in Wegberg-Wildenrath, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is planned to have
hydrogen technology replace diesel-powered trainsets in regional transport in
the future and make a significant contribution to phasing out diesel fuel. Hydrogen
trains are a particularly climate-friendly drive technology since they operate
emission-free with green hydrogen and emit only water vapor.
Deutsche Bahn
(DB) and Siemens Mobility are driving forward the climate-friendly transition
in transport and are testing the use of hydrogen for rail for the first time.
The aim is to test a completely new overall system consisting of a newly
developed train and a newly designed filling station.
- Intelligent Valve from Siemens now also operates with a glycol content in the hydronic circuit
- Integrated change-over function saves engineering time and investment costs at the automation level
Siemens Smart
Infrastructure has enhanced its Intelligent Valve with new glycol capability. As
a result, the valve can now be used in hydronic circuits with ethylene
glycol-based antifreeze. The glycol option substantially increases the range of
use cases for the Intelligent Valve: It extends the application range to hydronic
circuits that are exposed to ambient temperatures below 0°C during standstill.
Example applications include coils in air handling units (AHUs) or recoolers of
chiller plants. With the new capability, the required burst protection can be
provided without sacrificing the well-known benefits of Intelligent Valve such
as energy transparency, pressure-independent flow control or optimized Delta T
(ΔT).
- Siemens to supply two Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) for Alexandria Supervisory Control Center and West Alexandria Distribution Control Center
- Advanced metering infrastructure, including the supply of 300,000 smart meters, will be established during the project implementation
- Alexandria Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) serves customers in Alexandria, a city with about five million inhabitants
- Implementing state-of-the-art software solutions and automation devices will help AEDC to increase efficiency and reliability of the electricity supply, while reducing electricity distribution losses

Siemens
has been awarded a contract to upgrade the distribution management
system and establish an advanced metering infrastructure for Alexandria
Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) – Lot 1 of a JICA-funded loan. As
subsidiary of the state-owned utility Egyptian Electricity Holding Company
(EEHC), AEDC is responsible for the distribution network of Alexandria
Governorate, the second most populated governorate in Egypt. During the
upcoming 30 months, Siemens will be implementing an ADMS control center for the
West Alexandria region and a control center to supervise all distribution
control centers in Alexandria.
