Advanced drive technology from Siemens will increase the operational efficiency of one of Pakistan’s largest sugar mills by up to 10 percent. Faran Sugar Mills will install 19 Siemens electric motors at its Shaikh Bhirkio, District Tando Muhammad Khan plant, implementing the company’s premium efficiency SIMOTICS IE3 motor for the first time in Pakistan’s sugar industry.

Siemens researchers have developed a new type of electric motor that, with a weight of just 50 kilograms, delivers a continuous output of about 260 kilowatts – five times more than comparable drive systems. This record-setting propulsion system successfully completed its first public flight today at Schwarze Heide Airport near Dinslaken, Germany, where it – almost silently – powered an Extra 330LE aerobatic airplane. The new drive system had already made its maiden flight on June 24th 2016. This advance means that hybrid-electric aircraft with four or more seats will now be possible.

Siemens has appointed Alia Al Rifai (40) as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company’s Middle East region, effective July 1. Al Rifai assumed her new role after two years as Senior Executive Vice President of Finance for the Energy Management Division in the region. She takes over from Stefan Halberstadt, who will join the Power and Gas Division’s Energy Solutions business unit as CFO, starting August 1.

Siemens’ new headquarters in Munich have opened. Employees and the Managing and Supervisory Boards of Siemens AG celebrated completion of the building with a grand-opening ceremony. Deputy Minister-President of Bavaria Ilse Aigner and Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter were also on hand for the occasion. Completed in only about three years, the new building provides space for 1,200 employees on an aboveground area of around 45,000 square meters.

The world’s first 3D-printed office building has been inaugurated in Dubai, using smart technology from Siemens to integrate the building management systems, access control and surveillance into a central building management platform.
Siemens officially launched its advanced NX Air air-insulated medium voltage switchgear in Qatar today at an event themed “Redefining power distribution in Qatar”. With almost half a million units in operation around the world, the 11kV NX Air has been specially customized to meet the needs of the Qatari market. Attended by Fatih Sakiz, CEO of Siemens in Qatar, and nearly 200 professionals from the engineering, construction and consulting sectors, the launch event included several live demonstration sessions of the NX Air switchgear.
