Siemens turns ski lifts into high-tech systems
Siemens and Skyway agreed to
work together to determine the electrical and digital infrastructure needed to
support vertiport operations. Vertiports are hubs for vertical take-off and
landing (VTOL) vehicles such as air taxis and drones. The scope of
collaboration involves both companies researching energy demands of vertiports
and developing sustainable electrical supply, standard charging processes, and
a “system of systems” to support aircraft operations. Innovation around
vertiport infrastructure will be critical to the future scalability of electric
vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) flight operations.

Mobility to deliver 1,200 electric locomotives and provide
35 years of full service maintenance
- Single largest
locomotive order in the history of Siemens Mobility and single largest order in
the history of Siemens India
- Siemens
Mobility strengthens its position in important growth market: India is a lead
country in the railway industry with an almost fully electrified rail network
Siemens Mobility has received an order for 1,200 locomotives of 9,000 horsepower
(HP) from Indian Railways, marking the single largest locomotive order in the
history of Siemens Mobility and single largest order in the history of Siemens India.
Siemens Mobility will design, manufacture, commission and test the locomotives.
Deliveries are planned over an eleven-year period, and the contract includes 35
years of full service maintenance. The locomotives will
be assembled in the Indian Railways factory in Dahod, in the state of Gujarat, India. Maintenance will be performed in
four Indian Railways depots located in Vishakhapatnam, Raipur, Kharagpur and
Pune. Locomotive assembly and maintenance will be implemented together
with the staff of Indian Railways. The contract has a total value of
approximately €3 billion, excluding taxes and price variation.

- Two new aspirating smoke detectors, FDA261 and FDA262, extend the existing fire detection portfolio
- Particularly suited for critical infrastructure and very large protection areas
- Highly intuitive commissioning app and improved detection performance
- Modular design to prolong lifetime and reduce environmental footprint
Siemens has introduced two new aspirating
smoke detectors (ASD), FDA261 and FDA262, catering to particularly challenging
fire safety installations that extend over wide areas, such as large data
centers, e-commerce warehouses, or industrial manufacturing sites. A single device
can cover up to 6,700 m2, currently the largest coverage area available
on the market. Even for Class A installations with the highest sensitivity requirements,
up to 2,000 m2 of detection coverage is feasible with a single ASD+ detector.
The new ASD Connect
app ensures fast and easy digital commissioning. It
makes the commissioning process highly automated and intuitive. As a result, the
commissioning effort decreases significantly.
