The
modernization of Line 4 of the Paris Metro has been completed with the highest
grade of automation and the automatic driverless metros have now begun revenue
service. The digitalization
and optimization of Line 4 will allow RATP to safely increase frequency by reducing intervals
between trains from 105 to 85 seconds. Chosen in
2015 by RATP to automate Line 4, Siemens Mobility supplied their digitalized
communication and CBTC signaling systems to modernize the network. After a
trial run with no passengers that began in June, the automation of Line 4 is now
a reality. More automatic driverless shuttles will be introduced into the
line's traffic over time to achieve full automation by the end of 2023.

September 9, 2022) Premiere ride in the new hydrogen train: Dr. Roland
Busch, CEO of Siemens AG, Dr. Richard Lutz, CEO of Deutsche Bahn, and Hartmut
Höppner, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV),
are taking their first ride in the Mireo Plus H hydrogen train today and will
then demonstrate the train’s refueling procedure using the mobile hydrogen
fueling station. The event will be held at the Siemens Test and Validation
Center in Wegberg-Wildenrath, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is planned to have
hydrogen technology replace diesel-powered trainsets in regional transport in
the future and make a significant contribution to phasing out diesel fuel. Hydrogen
trains are a particularly climate-friendly drive technology since they operate
emission-free with green hydrogen and emit only water vapor.
Deutsche Bahn
(DB) and Siemens Mobility are driving forward the climate-friendly transition
in transport and are testing the use of hydrogen for rail for the first time.
The aim is to test a completely new overall system consisting of a newly
developed train and a newly designed filling station.

ÖBB and
Siemens Mobility unveil the next generation of Nightjet sleeping and couchette
cars at the Siemens Mobility plant in Vienna. The new cars are designed to
optimally accommodate the needs of customers and score points with modern
design, greater comfort and increased privacy. By the end of 2025, a total of
33 next-generation ÖBB Nightjets will be on the rails, connecting European
cities overnight at speeds of up to 230 kilometers per hour in a
climate-friendly way. The first trains are scheduled to be in use by the end of
summer 2023 on the popular routes from Austria and Germany to Italy.

Akiem, the
leasing rolling stock specialist company for rail vehicles, has ordered 65
Vectron AC and Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The order was
placed as part of a framework agreement for the purchase of locomotives that
was signed in December 2021. The first locomotives from this call are to be
delivered in mid-2024. Akiem previously ordered 20 Vectron locomotives from
Siemens Mobility last December.

Mitsui Rail
Capital Europe (MRCE), a full-service locomotive leasing company, has ordered
14 Vectron MS multisystem locomotives from Siemens Mobility on the basis of an
existing contract. With this order, MRCE will have a fleet of 147 Vectrons.
MRCE plans to use the locomotives in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland, the
Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and the Netherlands.

Siemens Mobility to install a 2,000 km state-of-the-art high-speed rail network that will connect 60 cities throughout the country with trains that can operate up to 230 km/h. The integrated system will create the 6ᵗʰ largest high-speed rail network in the world, and will provide 90% of Egyptians access to a modern, safe, and affordable transportation system. The fully electrified network will cut carbon emissions by 70% compared to current car or bus transport, further supporting Egypt’s efforts in transforming its mobility to a more sustainable one. Siemens Mobility will deliver 41 Velaro high-speed trains, 94 Desiro High Capacity regional train sets, and 41 Vectron freight locomotives. This contract also includes the development of eight depots and yards and 15 years of maintenance.

ViaQuatro has successfully begun full operation of São Paulo’s entire Metro Line 4 with Siemens Mobility’s Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling. Since its first stretch opened in 2010, it has been the first fully automated metro line in South America that can operate with GoA 4, the highest grade of automation that allows trains to be automatically controlled and operated. The digitalized and optimized system allows for a more efficient and centralized control of operations, while also increasing the safety, availability, and capacity across the entire network.
Siemens Mobility has handed over the 100th ICE
4 to Deutsche Bahn. The train was christened “Rheinland-Pfalz” at the official
ceremony held in Mainz today, attended by Dr. Richard Lutz, CEO of Deutsche
Bahn AG, Dr. Michael Peterson, DB Board Member for Long Distance Passenger
Transport, Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and
Transport, Malu Dreyer, Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate, and Dr.
Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens AG.
“We are pleased that the ICE 4 is the backbone of DB’s long-distance transport and thank our customer for their trust. Our trains help DB make rail transport more attractive and protect the environment. The fact that we have delivered 100 ICE 4s shows that we have the right portfolio for high-speed transport. Moreover, the ICE secures thousands of jobs in Germany,” said Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens AG.
DB will receive a total of 137 ICE 4 trains in various configurations by the end of 2024. In addition to the 50 12-car trains that have already been delivered, 19 of the 37 ordered 7-car trains are already in use, such as on the ICE line between Cologne and Berlin. 33 13-car XXL ICE trains, of which DB has ordered 50, have also been added to the fleet since February 2021. The 13-car trains have almost 1,000 seats, more than ever before in an ICE and five times more than in a medium-haul airplane. Siemens Mobility delivers a new ICE 4 every three weeks. At this rate, DB will be able to expand its capacity by another 11,000 ICE 4 seats by the end of this year.
