- Standardization will foster collaboration, accelerate innovation, and facilitate the exchange of digital twin models and data
- Collaboration with the W3C working group set to propel the convergence effort, bringing about a unified standard to unlock commercial potential being held back by IoT fragmentation
In a collaborative move
with the W3C Consortium, Siemens and Microsoft have announced their commitment
to converge the Digital Twin Definition Language (DTDL) with the Thing
Description standard from international standards organization, W3C.
- SINEC Security Guard: Intuitive cloud-based software-as-a-service to improve cybersecurity on the shop floor
- Allows users to match vulnerabilities to their OT assets, prioritize them and engage in mitigation measures
- Integration with the cloud-native SIEM Microsoft Sentinel enabled
- Available on the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace from July 2024
Production facilities are increasingly the
target of cyberattacks. Industrial companies are therefore required to identify
and close potential vulnerabilities in their systems.
To address the need to identify cybersecurity
vulnerabilities on the shop floor as quickly as possible, Siemens has launched a
new cybersecurity software-as-a-service, that will be showcased for the first
time at Hannover Messe 2024.

Germany’s first
use of the Mireo Plus B battery hybrid train from Siemens Mobility / Benefits passengers
and the environment
Innovative
technology along with even more climate protection and greater comfort and
convenience for passengers – regional rail transport on Network 8 (“Ortenau”) is
rising to a new level on April 8, 2024. Today’s the day the first four
battery-powered trains from Siemens Mobility begin regular service, marking a
premiere in Germany. The official start was celebrated by an exclusive
inaugural trip from Offenburg to Oberkirch and back, and was accompanied by
Winfried Hermann, Minister of Transport for the state of Baden-Württemberg, together
with numerous invited guests. “We are writing a new chapter in railway history
with this opening trip,” commented Minister Hermann. “Thanks to the battery
hybrid drive of the Mireo Plus B, trains operating in the Ortenau
region as of today are more climate-friendly than those using diesel.
Baden-Württemberg is a pioneer with innovative train technology. All trains
should be climate-friendly. We are relying on alternative, climate-friendly
solutions wherever there are still no overhead power lines.”
- Expansion of existing partnership with transit
operator Metrolinx
- Increasing system availability and reliability for
Toronto’s passenger railway system
Siemens
Mobility has been chosen by Metrolinx, the regional public transit operator
for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, to handle their track, signal, and right-of-way maintenance for the
Central Region of Toronto's passenger railway infrastructure system. This
partnership builds upon Siemens Mobility's existing maintenance services in the
West Region and signal and communications services at the Metrolinx Network
Operations Center.
- ÖBB orders 19 more trains – delivery by autumn 2028
- New level of comfort – cellphone reception improved by
50 percent
- High- and low-floor entrances, six bicycle spaces,
three wheelchair spaces, on-board restaurant, compartments, open-plan cars
Austrian
Federal Railways (ÖBB) inaugurated service today for the first Railjet of the
new generation from Siemens Mobility. The new train, featuring numerous
innovations, will initially operate on the Vienna-Feldkirch route. Excluding
the locomotive, the nine-car train is around 240 meters long and offers 532
seats. It has two first-class cars with business class sections, an on-board
restaurant with seating, four second-class (economy class) cars, a
multifunctional economy class car, and an economy class driving car. Technical
highlights include high-tech lightweight bogies, windows optimized for cellphone
reception, innovative power distribution systems with a redundant power supply
from the adjacent car, and a self-diagnosis system with a secure radio link to
the maintenance depot.
