Siemens has been awarded a contract by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) for the turnkey construction of three substations in Qatar, and a contract for Air-Insulated Switchgears.

Siemens has signed contracts worth €8 billion for high-efficiency natural gas-firedpower plants and wind power installations that will boost Egypt’s power generationcapacity by more than 50 percent compared to the currently installed base. Theprojects will add an additional 16.4 gigawatts (GW) to Egypt’s national grid tosupport the country’s rapid economic development and meet its growingpopulation’s demand for power.

Siemens will showcase a range of technologies for the efficient and reliable generation, transmission, distribution, storage and use of electricity at the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2015 in Dubai, from 21 to 23 April.

Siemens Logistics and Airport Solutions has equipped the new cargo terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai World Central (DWC), with a state-of-the-art material handling system (MHS). The new home of Emirates SkyCargo’s freighter fleet was successfully started up in several phases. “Our partnership with Siemens is a testimony to our commitment to create and deliver industry-leading air cargo solutions,” said Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo. “We develop constantly the nuances of our services and our innovative products – ensuring that we remain creative and efficient. Siemens and the Egyptian government have reached firm agreements today to build a 4.4 GW combined-cycle power plant and install wind power capacity of 2 GW. Siemens will build a factory in Egypt to manufacture rotor blades for wind turbines, creating up to 1,000 jobs and therefore nearly trebling Siemens’ footprint in the country. Including two further Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) which were signed at the event, Egypt’s power generation capacity will be massively increased by up to one third mostly by 2020. Under the agreements, Siemens will propose to build additional combined cycle power plants with a capacity of up to 6.6 GW and ten substations for reliable power supply. The agreements were signed at the Egypt Economic Development Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh in the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Electricity Shaker al Markabi, Germany’s Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, and Joe Kaeser, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens AG.

Siemens has been awarded a contract to supply four E-Class turbines to Egypt’s Attaka Power Plant near Suez City, under a supply contract with ELSEWEDY Power System Projects (PSP). The turbines from Siemens will add more than 650 megawatts (MW) of power generation to Egypt’s national electricity grid.
