Siemens to showcase technology for energy efficiency at Dubai’s WETEX 2015 exhibition

A key focus will be the company’s SGT5-4000F gas turbine, a highly efficient and low-maintenance unit that is already widely used in the UAE and across the Middle East. The Siemens F-Class turbine is the technology of choice for the recently-announced extension of DEWA’s Jebel Ali M-Station power and desalination plant, which will use two F-Class turbines. Designed for maximum efficiency in combined-cycle configuration, the extension will add around 700 megawatts (MW) to Dubai’s electricity network.
Siemens will also be presenting solutions for the service, maintenance, upgrade and modernization of existing power infrastructure, including the company’s Wet Compression technology. Wet Compression allows utilities to significantly increase the output of a power plant by injecting water into the gas turbine inlet, which can produce power increases of up to 25 MW. Wet Compression technology is particularly appropriate to the Middle East region, allowing power plants to recover power loss experienced at high ambient temperatures.
“Significant year-on-year increases in power demand in the UAE and across the Middle East highlight the importance of energy efficiency as a priority when planning new and upgraded infrastructure,” said Dietmar Siersdorfer, CEO, Siemens UAE and Middle East. “We have the technology to make significant improvements to the way power is generated and used, and this is our focus - energy efficiency at every stage in the electricity value chain.
“From the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity to the eventual usage in buildings, transportation and industry, we are analyzing every stage for opportunities to implement innovative technology that drives higher efficiency, smarter resource usage and lower environmental impact.”
Siemens will also be exhibiting its full portfolio for the efficient and reliable transmission and distribution of electricity including gas-insulated lines, gas-insulated switchgear, transformers, smart grid technology, circuit breakers and full turnkey substations.
WETEX 2015 will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center between 21 and 23 April.
