Siemens has been awarded a landmark contract to upgrade the Kingdom of Bahrain’s energy infrastructure with a new high-voltage power transmission network, strengthening the country’s electricity supply. The contract, awarded to Siemens by the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in Bahrain, was announced at an inauguration ceremony in Al Hidd in Bahrain today.

Siemens has shipped its first Industrial Trent 60 gas turbine generator package from its manufacturing facility in Mount Vernon, Ohio, USA to Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company’s (ADMA-OPCO) Satah Al-Razboot (SARB) offshore oil field project on Zirku Island.

Siemens has been awarded a 25-year long-term service agreement for the planned Umm Al Houl combined cycle power plant in Qatar. The customer is Umm Al Houl Power Q.S.C., a company established through a partnership among Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QWEC), Qatar Petroleum (QP), Qatar Foundation (QF) and K1 Energy (joint venture established by Mitsubishi Corporation and TEPCO Fuel & Power, Incorporated). The service agreement covers the plant’s six SGT5-4000F gas turbines, four SST5-4000 steam turbines, 10 SGen5-1200A generators including instrumentation and controls service for a period of 25 years. It also provides for an electrical and a resident engineer to be located on-site.

Siemens has been awarded a contract by Egyptian National Railways (ENR) to modernize 260km of railway network in Egypt with advanced technology for signaling, level-crossings and communications. The upgrades, which are part of a national plan to modernize Egypt’s rail system, will increase safety levels and allow the railway’s maximum speed to be raised from 140km/h to 160km/h, boosting throughput of passenger trains and freight services.

Siemens has been awarded a contract by UAE master developer Nakheel PJSC for the turnkey construction of three electrical substations in Dubai. The substations are an essential component of Nakheel’s Deira Islands development, which will see the construction of four man-made islands off the coast of Dubai’s Deira District.
Siemens has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government of the Republic of Iraq to strengthen the collaboration with the Ministry of Energy as well as Ministry of Oil & Gas for modernizing the energy infrastructure and the Oil & Gas sector. In the presence of the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mr. Haider al Abadi, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Qassim al-Fahdawi, Minister of Electricity, and Siegfried Russwurm, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG, in Baghdad today.
