The Chief Minister of Rajasthan Shri Ashok Gehlot, today inaugurated the Biograph 16 PET.CT scanner by Siemens at Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital, Jaipur. It is the first PET.CT scanner in the state of Rajasthan, which helps in identifying cancer lesions at a very early stage. It also comes with HD.PET technology, which provides the best image resolution in the industry and an X-ray reduction feature, which reduces the radiation dose to the patient up to 68%.

Healthcare SectorIn connection with October, the international breast cancer awareness month, Siemens has started a worldwide campaign to increase the public’s understanding about breast cancer. Siemens is asking Internet users to upload their favorite portrait photo to a special web site. There all photos will be collected to create a virtual pink ribbon, the symbol of solidarity with breast cancer patients. As soon as the ribbon has traveled around the world once, Siemens will donate 50,000 Euros to the non-profit Susan G. Komen organization which is involved worldwide in the fight against breast cancer. In addition, Siemens has initiated a survey aimed at women in Brazil, China, Germany, India, Russia, the USA and other countries to determine the level of knowledge concerning breast cancer and early detection. The results of the survey will be published in the spring of 2011. Based on these results, Siemens will develop and distribute specific awareness material suitable for the countries included in the survey.
Background Information NoteBreast cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in women, with numbers reaching close to 30 percent worldwide. Incidences of breast cancer in India are on a rise and reports as of 2008 state that nearly 100,000 new cases of breast cancer were detected on an annual basis. This number is expected to go up to 250,000 by 20151. As per media reports, 1 amongst 22 women in India is likely to suffer from breast cancer during her lifetime. Siemens Healthcare has developed comprehensive solutions for early detection and treatment of breast cancer under the collective name of “Breast Care Solutions”. These comprise a combination of different imaging methods such as Ultrasound and Mammography augmented by IT as well as radiation therapy. Siemens Ltd. has manufactured the country’s first single phase 500MVA HVDC transformer at its Kalwa factory. With this milestone, Siemens Ltd has once again displayed its indigenous manufacturing capabilities to meet the Indian power sector requirement for making high-end technology products. This transformer will form a bank of 1500MVA, the highest ever rating by any Indian manufacturer so far. This will be used in the HVDC Transmission system to efficiently transmit bulk power over very long distance.
Siemens has been awarded contracts for the turnkey construction of two combined cycle power plants in India- UNOSUGEN and DGEN by Torrent Power Ltd and Torrent Energy Ltd. respectively of the Torrent Group based in Ahmedabad, India. including long-term service agreements.
Today Adani Power Ltd awarded Siemens a contract to install a bipolar 500-kilovolt High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission system of 2500 MW capacity. The first phase of the project is scheduled to be commissioned in February, 2011 and the second phase in July, 2011.
For the third quarter ended June 30, 2011, Siemens Ltd. registered Sales of Rs 2779crores, a growth of 24% over the comparable period last year. While new ordersduring the quarter rose by 8% to touch Rs 2282 crores, the order backlog grew by 10%to Rs 14964 crores. Profit after Tax (PAT) remained flat at Rs 155 crores, compared tothe third quarter ended June 30, 2010.
