Siemens announced today that it will deepen its collaboration with
NVIDIA to help build the industrial metaverse. Siemens is bringing immersive
visualization powered by new NVIDIA Omniverse Cloud APIs
to the Siemens Xcelerator platform, driving increased use of AI-driven digital
twin technology. At the NVIDIA GTC, Siemens and NVIDIA demonstrated how
generative AI can revolutionize the visualization of complex data, making
photorealism possible, and showcased how sustainable shipbuilder HD Hyundai can
use it to develop new products.

Technology company Siemens
is harnessing the power of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to help
industrial companies drive innovation and efficiency across the design,
engineering, manufacturing and operational lifecycle of products. At the Smart
Production Solutions (SPS) trade show in Nuremberg, Siemens and the motion
technology company Schaeffler are showcasing a production machine that is augmented
with the Industrial Copilot for the first time. The two companies are demonstrating
how the Industrial Copilot can augment Siemens’ industrial automation
engineering and operation solutions.
Today,
Brightline announced that Siemens Mobility (Siemens) has been designated the
“preferred bidder” to build train sets for the Brightline West high-speed rail
project that will connect Las Vegas and Southern California. The contract will
include a fleet of ten “American Pioneer 220” (AP 220) train sets to be
manufactured, delivered to Nevada and tested to support Brightline West’s
timeline of initiating service in 2028.

According to a study by
the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research [Fraunhofer ISI],
battery production capacity in Europe alone will quadruple by 2025 from 124
gigawatt hours in 2022 to over 500 gigawatt hours. By 2030, this figure is expected
to increase tenfold to up to 1.5 terawatt hours.

Siemens Mobility GmbH has
received an order from Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) for an additional 21
Siemens Desiro ML electric trainsets. The order will increase the size of ÖBB’s
Desiro ML fleet to 294 trains, of which 236 are already in service throughout the
country. This order underscores the reliability of the Siemens Mobility Desiro
ML fleet. Beginning in 2026, the trains will serve local routes in the eastern
part of the country, in particular the main line between Vienna Meidling and
Floridsdorf and outer branch lines in Lower Austria.

control system

Siemens Mobility will upgrade the
first section of Finland's rail network under the Finnish government's
"Digirail project", which involves renewing the country's train control system. The contract was
recently awarded and includes the installation of the European Train Control
System Levels 2 [ETCS L2] and the Hybrid Train Detection [HTD] for the first
time in Finland on the 191-kilometer stretch between Lielahti and Rauma-Pori. This marks another milestone in the
implementation of Siemens
Mobility's latest interlocking and radio block center technology on the new DS3
platform, which is entirely based on commercial-off-the-shelf [COTS] hardware. The
new train control system aims to increase the network's capacity, improve
punctuality, minimize disruptions, and enhance the safety of operation. It will
pave the way for a more sustainable, efficient, and safe railway network and is
expected to be in commercial service by 2027.

the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates to Sohar in the
Sultanate of Oman; length of 303km

Siemens Mobility, together with its consortium partner Hassan Allam Construction, is
honored to announce that it has been awarded the Abu Dhabi – Sohar Design and
Build Railway Systems and Integration contract by Oman – Etihad Rail, a joint
venture co-owned by the two countries to deliver this network. Siemens Mobility and
Hassan Allam Construction will deliver the design, build and integration of the ETCS
Level 2 signaling, telecom and power supply systems over the 303-kilometer-long
Abu Dhabi – Sohar railway link. The signaling solutions are state-of-the art and
desert-proof. This project marks the first-ever cross-country railway network in the
Middle East and Arab world.

At Hannover Messe 2024, Siemens presents the first generative artificial intelligence (AI) product for engineering in an industrial environment. The Siemens Industrial Copilot, the generative AI-powered assistant, is now seamlessly connected to the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal. This will enable engineering teams to find the right help topic and to generate a basic visualization and code faster for programmable logic controllers (PLC). As a result, they will be able to significantly reduce their workload and offload repetitive tasks to the Siemens Industrial Copilot. In addition, the engineering of complex tasks will become less susceptible to errors. This in turn reduces development times and boosts quality and productivity over the long term. The Siemens Industrial Copilot for TIA Portal Engineering will be available for download from the Siemens Xcelerator marketplace starting in summer 2024.

Siemens Mobility will upgrade the entire 170 kilometers long S-bane
network in Copenhagen to the highest grade of automation (GoA4 technology) to
enable unattended train operations starting with the first phase in 2030. Respective
contracts have been signed with Banedanmark (BDK) and
DSB recently including the necessary signaling equipment for trains and
wayside. GoA4 will allow the operator to run more trains in the entire system, enhance
the level of passenger experience, secure the current punctuality rate and will
future-proof the network. The new contracts have a total volume of about 270m
Euros and build on the original contract from 2011 to equip the Copenhagen
S-train network with the Communications-Based Train Control System [CBTC].
Siemens Mobility has received an order for a further six
5-car Desiro HC trains from DB Regio for the network Werdenfelser Land, Germany
(route: Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen – Mittenwald).
