The “SEATRAC” system, enabled by Siemens technology and developed by TOBEA, an innovative tech start-up based in Patras, Greece, creates a unique way for individuals with disabilities to experience life at the beach and take a dip in the sea without any outside assistance. SEATRAC consists of a specially developed chair mounted on a track system. This system enables individuals to safely glide into the water and return to land without any outside help. The technology gives individuals more control over their lives, promotes inclusion and guarantees equal opportunity for all. The system has already been installed at more than 250 beaches around the world.

Siemens continued its profitable growth trajectory again in the third quarter. Overall, the company clearly increased its net income and profit margin and thus demonstrated its financial strength once again. With a sustained large order backlog, which totaled €113 billion in Q3, and a book-to-bill ratio greater than 1, Siemens is optimally equipped for the future.

For the first time, the technology company Siemens is launching a private infrastructure developed in-house for the 5G mobile communications standard. The solution enables industrial companies to build their own local 5G networks that will provide optimal support for automation applications. "By building their own 5G networks, industrial companies are launching the next stage of connected production," says Axel Lorenz, CEO of Process Automation at Siemens. "5G is crucial for applications like mobile robots, autonomous logistics, and driverless transport systems in factories. Siemens' private 5G infrastructure also gives users sole control over the data in their 5G network at all times, and they can custom-configure the network for their applications."

At EMO 2019 in Hanover, Siemens is presenting the latest services for the digitalization of machine tools. With its "Digital Transformation Awareness & Consulting CNC", Siemens offers a consulting service for the development of an individual digitalization strategy. In addition to workshops for the identification of action areas and development of the digitalization strategy, target group-specific training sessions provide more in-depth knowledge and promote wider acceptance of the digital transformation. With Brownfield Connectivity Services, Siemens is also offering additional services: using a gateway, users can connect both Sinumerik CNCs and controllers and automation solutions from third-party providers to higher-level networks. Digital Transformation Awareness & Consulting CNC and Brownfield Connectivity Services are part of Digital Motion Control Services, which enable Siemens to support its customers on the path toward digitalization.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure has launched Connect Box, an open and easy-to-use IoT solution designed to manage small to medium-sized buildings. The latest addition to the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, Connect Box is a user-friendly approach for monitoring building performance, with the potential to optimize energy efficiency by up to 30 percent and to substantially improve indoor air quality in small to medium sized buildings such as schools, retail shops, apartments or small offices.
