Pharmaceutical
company Pfizer has opened a new high-containment manufacturing facility in
Freiburg, Germany, using technology and services from Siemens to make it one of
the most modern and sustainable of its kind. Potentially producing up to seven
billion tablets a year for more than 180 countries, the plant uses an
innovative containment concept - monitored and controlled by Building Services
from Siemens Xcelerator portfolio - which ensures employee safety and results
in a 40 percent reduction in energy use in its environmental control system,
compared to a traditional facility.

In a step to address the fast-growing demand for
electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in India, Siemens Limited, signed
an agreement today to acquire the EV division of Mumbai-based Mass-Tech
Controls Private Limited. The division is engaged in design, engineering and
manufacturing of a wide range of AC chargers, and 30 to 300kW capacity DC
chargers for various end applications for EVs. The cost of the acquisition is
approximately Rs. 380 million (EUR 4.3 million) on a cash free and debt free
basis and subject to other adjustments that are mutually agreed between the
parties to the transaction.

Siemens provided automation and building technology
to the recently opened Bustanica vertical farm in Dubai, the world’s largest of
its kind. The $40 million facility is owned by Emirates Crop One, a joint venture
between Emirates Flight Catering, one of the world’s largest catering
operations serving more than 100 airlines, and Crop One Holdings Inc., an
industry leader in technology-driven indoor vertical farming.

research facility: the Zero Carbon Building Systems (ZCBS) Lab. It allows research

zones. The new building, located on the university campus in Zurich, comprises
two floors with different test cells, climate chambers, and experimentation
rooms. As part of its existing industrial partnership with ETH Zurich, Siemens
has equipped the new research facility with state-of-the-art digital building technologies,

Infrastructure has expanded its industry-leading medium voltage portfolio with
a sustainable and intelligent solution that paves the way for smart switchgear
of the future. Due to its conformity with the
instrument transformer standard IEC 61869, the SIBushing can be connected to the SICAM FCM plus (Feeder Condition
Monitor), a multi-functional, short-circuit and earth-fault indicator which
uses detection algorithms to indicate the direction of the cable fault. Applicable
for medium voltage distribution systems up to 36kV, the SICAM FCM plus with
SIBushing delivers unrivaled transparency and high-precision measurement of
distribution systems, resulting also in the consumption of significantly less
power, compared to conventional instrument transformer technologies.

The University
of York has appointed Siemens to design and deliver a solar array located at
the University’s new Institute for Safe Autonomy (ISA) as part of a £1.5
million research project. Funded through the UK Research Partnership
Investment Fund (UKRPIF), the project will enhance the Institute’s research
capabilities to develop and use AI and robotic systems to inspect and maintain
solar arrays.
