Siemens Smart Infrastructure, in partnership with Fluence, was awarded a contract by the Portuguese energy provider EDA – Electricidade dos Açores to build a battery-based energy storage system on Terceira, the second biggest island in terms of electrical consumption of the Azores archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. The project aims to make the island more sustainable and is scheduled for completion in 2021.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure received an order from Go Bus, one of New Zealand’s largest bus operators, to power two of their bus depots with charging infrastructure for eBuses. The order fulfils two separate Go Bus contracts in Auckland and Christchurch. In Christchurch, 25 electric buses, the city’s first large-scale electric bus fleet, will be charged by Siemens systems. In Auckland, the systems will charge nine buses that will operate on a new electric airport link. The operations are scheduled to start early in 2021.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure launched its new building automation controllers Desigo PXC4 and PXC5 to transform buildings into high-performing, energy efficient assets. The new generation of Desigo building automation controllers offers a wide range of benefits for automating small and medium-sized buildings to get the most flexible and scalable building automation. Thanks to the new, licence-free Desigo Engineering Framework, devices can now be seamlessly integrated in the same framework for intuitive engineering. Features such as open by design for successful integration of different protocols and easy wireless access facilitate building automation. Both controllers were designed to expand and strengthen the Desigo portfolio and focus on one specific automation element - the Desigo PXC4 for HVAC plants and Desigo PXC5 for system functions and integration.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure will provide the charging infrastructure for 10 Rampini E80 electric buses in Genoa, Italy, to be used by AMT Genova (AMT), the city's public transport operator. With this project, AMT continues its journey of electrifying the public transport system in Genoa, aiming to create an energy-efficient and sustainable model of urban mobility. The Siemens charging infrastructure is scheduled to be commissioned by the summer of 2021.

Siemens is deploying its workplace experience solution Comfy across its global offices, targeting approximately 600 company locations, by October this year. This supports a safe return to the workplace for employees during the pandemic and lays the foundation for more agile and future-oriented working. The Comfy app combines location, usage and smart building data with a wide range of user demands to connect employees to their office environment. More than 100,000 Siemens employees in 30 countries will get access to the application. In the first phase, a simplified version will provide the most important information about each employee’s office location. This also includes the latest general and location-specific COVID-19 updates as well as health regulations.

Combining its financial expertise with intelligent energy solutions and services, Siemens has entered investment and framework agreements with Berkeley Energy Commercial Industrial Solutions (BECIS). Together, they will provide customers access to distributed energy solutions via a flexible ‘Energy as a Service’ (EaaS) model, allowing customers in the Asia Pacific market to pay for energy services without the need for any capital investment. This will address customers’ energy cost and sustainability challenges.

The new SSA actuators for small valves have been added to the Acvatix valve and actuator line from Siemens Smart Infrastructure. They feature new functions that transform the existing product portfolio and support hydronic room applications with superior control accuracy, energy efficiency as well as reliability. The Acvatix product line meets all control and hydronic requirements associated with the generation, distribution and use of heating and cooling. The SSA actuators feature quiet and fault-free operation and manual override for flexible valve and actuator testing, regardless of system availability. New features offer a variety of installation options as well as a choice of installation direction. With new functionalities such as feedback signal for safety-critical applications and a modern, compact and IP54- compatible design, the new actuators can be used for more applications than ever.

The new PM2.5 duct type fine dust sensor from Siemens Smart Infrastructure comes in two variants and creates a healthy as well as productive indoor air climate. Part of the Symaro product group, the sensors measure dust and dirt particles, including fine sand, transmitting them rapidly and precisely to advanced building management systems for comprehensive climate monitoring and control. This improves the indoor air quality of residential and commercial buildings, which in turn has a positive effect on the health and comfort of room occupants. By ensuring the early detection of hazardous particles, the sensors help achieve energy and cost- efficient control of the entire HVAC system.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure is expanding the options for distribution grid applications with the new Siapp, a software license for the Sicam A8000 automation and remote terminal unit. The Siapp application is based on the Sicam A8000 with the powerful CP-8050 processor module. Siapp allows up to three separate custom applications to be developed, parameterized and loaded onto the remote terminal unit. Only one runtime license is needed. Siapp complies with the strictest data security standards and benefits customers including major energy suppliers, municipal utilities and industrial companies.

The self-optimizing and dynamic Intelligent Valve from Siemens Smart Infrastructure has become more versatile, thanks to new features and applications for heating groups and air handling units. The device controls the flow, measures temperature and output and automatically adjusts the valve settings to the heat exchanger. The Intelligent Valve is connected to the cloud and now, for the first time, directly integrated into Building Operator, the Siemens cloud application for the remote monitoring of buildings. This makes it possible to control the Intelligent Valve and adjust its settings anytime and anywhere. For increased flexibility, the product range has been expanded to include 3-port valves, which allow variable-temperature and constant-flow control of the water supply (mixed circuits). New features such as Delta-T (DT) limitation control, differential pressure and flow temperature control ensure smooth and energy-efficient HVAC plant operation and enable the Intelligent Valve to be used in even more applications.
