Partners from industry and science are joining forces in a novel collaborative research alliance to address the future-oriented fields of automation and digitalization. Siemens is the first company to forge a research alliance with universities and research institutes that will utilize a new, fully integrated approach in order to bundle outstanding expertise and make possible wide-ranging innovations in processes and systems.
Olaf Bolduan (61), Chairman of the Works Council at the Dynamowerk Berlin, has been appointed by the Charlottenburg District Court (Berlin) as an employee representative on the Supervisory Board. Bolduan was proposed by the Central Works Council and the Assembly of Delegates of IG Metall to succeed Lothar Adler, who retired at the end of May 2014 and accordingly left the Supervisory Board. "I would like to welcome Mr. Bolduan on behalf of all the members of the Supervisory Board and look forward to working with him in the future," said the Chairman of the Siemens Supervisory Board, Gerhard Cromme.

In line with its new company strategy, Siemens is reorienting its research activities toward the innovation fields of electrification, automation and digitalization in order to further strengthen its leading technology position in these areas. Siemens is the first company to form a research alliance with leading universities and institutions in this connection – an alliance that aims to combine outstanding expertise with a new, all-inclusive approach and make possible wide-ranging innovations in processes and systems.
Siemens has noted the announcement of the French government to stronger respect national interests itself, regarding the reorganization of Alstom. "We respect and understand the political interest of the government in the field of energy technology. Together with our partner MHI, we had verifiably the better offer with respect to industrial and strategic sustainability as well as regarding financial and social aspects. But the safeguarding of national interests is a matter of the State," said Joe Kaeser, President and CEO of Siemens, and added: "Dealing with Alstom, we have proven our competence, entrepreneurship, strategic finesse and last but not least discipline."
As part of the planned acquisition of the gas business of Alstom, Siemens AG has announced its intention to provide training for an additional 1,000 French young people over the next few years. The additional training positions will include both technical and administrative professions. Siemens will invest about €32,000 annually for each trainee. Siemens President and CEO Joe Kaeser made this commitment at a meeting with French President François Hollande on Tuesday. "Siemens' training programs are highly respected worldwide and open up great opportunities for a successful career. We want to send a signal and offer good training positions to many young men and women in France," said Kaeser.
Jürgen Maier has been appointed CEO of Siemens' Regional Company in the United Kingdom (UK), effective July 1, 2014. Currently member of the Siemens UK Executive Management Board and Managing Director of Siemens Industry in the UK, he will succeed Roland Aurich. Born 1964 in Germany with Austrian nationality, Jürgen Maier came to the UK in 1974. He has held a variety of positions at Siemens over the past 28 years. Roland Aurich is retiring from Siemens after working for the company for more than 28 years on expiry of his contract.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Siemens AG today announced that they have joined forces in evaluating a potential proposal for certain assets of the French multinational conglomerate, Alstom in order to strengthen the future position of Alstom, MHI and Siemens.

Siemens no longer intends to sell its baggage handling and parcel and postal sorting activities. The activities are to be further operated as a separate business under the Siemens umbrella. "I've made it clear again and again that we have to get our businesses in order again ourselves. We'll do this in the case of postal automation and airport logistics. We'll set up the company so it can operate better and more flexibly in its medium-sized competitive environment. And we'll create the required prerequisites for this: suitable financial resources, appropriate management structures and an appropriate timeframe," said Siemens President and CEO Joe Kaeser.
