Siemens has signed an agreement to acquire
Supplyframe, a leading Design-to-Source platform for the global electronics
value chain, for USD 0.7 billion. The transaction unlocks significant value for
customers of Supplyframe and Siemens, providing seamless and quick access to
both Siemens’ offerings and Supplyframe’s marketplace intelligence. This will
help customers to reduce costs, increase agility and make highly informed
decisions. The acquisition also strengthens the Siemens portfolio through
Software as a Service (SaaS) – not only in the field of Electronic Design
Automation (EDA) and Printed Circuit Boards (PCB), but also scaling into other
domains and technology fields.

Siemens and the
automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler cooperate on intelligent
diagnostics for drive systems. Through this collaboration Siemens combines its
IIoT platform Sidrive IQ with Schaeffler’s decades of experience and
expertise in designing, manufacturing, and servicing bearings. Sidrive IQ
integrates a number of functionalities into one seamless solution and augments
drive systems with AI-based analytics and digital content.

The Sirius 3RQ1 series completes Siemens Smart Infrastructure’s portfolio of coupling relays for electrical systems in industry and infrastructure. With wide-range supply voltage from 24 to 240V AC/DC, the new force-guided devices are designed for universal use. They are certified up to Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 and Performance Level (PL) e and approved for very high safety requirements. Among other things, coupling relays are used to amplify or multiply signals to and from controllers. The Sirius 3RQ1 coupling relays can also switch electrical loads directly. Thanks to their force-guided operation in accordance with IEC 60947-5-1 (IEC 61810-3), the devices offer maximum safety for people and systems. They are particularly well suited for use in railroad and signaling applications as well as in elevators and industrial production facilities, making it possible to safely control brakes and doors, for example, and to switch traffic lights, conveyor belts or packaging machines.

The chargers of Parkraumgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg mbH (PBW) will soon be managed using the E-Car Operation Center (E-Car OC) software from Siemens Smart Infrastructure. The goal is to manage the charging infrastructure in public parking garages and parking lots in a flexible and future-proof manner. The software also allows the administration of power and billing data from charging stations of different manufacturers. This will make it possible to charge electric cars conveniently and flexibly in PBW parking lots – for example, at hospitals or universities – and to pay with a variety of payment systems via Giro-e, using an EC card. Initially, the software will manage about 200 charging stations, with more to follow in the near future.

Various small to medium-sized buildings can now be covered with a simple and cost-efficient solution. Cerberus FIT maximizes fire safety, thanks to greater functionality and enhanced productivity for those working on protecting the buildings. The intuitive interface as well as the auto configuration tool allow the technician to install, commission and maintain the system in a fast, easy and reliable way. With the delayed alarm function staff will be informed first to identify what an alarm is about in order to assess the situation. This ensures business continuity and reduces disturbances to occupants of smaller buildings such as small-to-medium sized hotels, kindergartens or nursing homes.

Siemens offers charging system suppliers a new plug & play solution, which for the first time enables calibration of the Powerline signal level in line with CCS (Combined Charging System) CharIN Association Implementation Guidelines for the conductive charging of electric vehicles. The solution comprises the Simatic ET 200SP TM ECC PL ST charge controller and the TM ECC CCS calibration kit. When calibrating the signal quality of a DC CCS charge controller using the Siemens solution, there is no need for a spectrum analyzer, which makes the process quicker and easier. Manufacturers of charging stations can also save engineering effort as well as time and costs during commissioning and can reduce servicing to remedy charging interruptions by up to 50 percent. Engineering is in the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure will provide a charging solution for Dopravní podnik Ostrava (Ostrava Transit Authority), which will expand its fleet with 24 Solaris electric buses. The largest order for electric buses in the Czech Republic to date will include four Sicharge UC charging stations from Siemens. These high-power chargers provide an effective maximum of 400 kW each. Furthermore, Siemens will deliver 28 mobile chargers, electrical infrastructure as well as energy automation software.
