- The companies will work together to drive adoption of open, interoperable standards in wireless charging for global electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure
- Siemens makes strategic investment in WiTricity and licenses their technology for future wireless EV charging products
Siemens invests
USD 25 million and acquires a minority stake in U.S.-based WiTricity, a
wireless charging technology company. Siemens and WiTricity will work together
to drive innovation in the emerging market for wireless EV charging. This
market is expected to reach USD 2 billion by 2028 in Europe and North America
alone, according to Siemens’ calculations. The two companies seek to bridge the
gaps in the global standardization of wireless charging for electric passenger
and light duty commercial vehicles, to enable interoperability between vehicles
and infrastructure, as well as support market penetration. In addition, both
parties will collaborate to advance the technical development of wireless
charging systems.
Travelers benefit from greater reliability –
project commissioned after only 18 months
(Düsseldorf/Altena, June 1, 2022) Digital Rail Germany is moving forward. Deutsche Bahn (DB) has just inaugurated the completely renewed signaling and interlocking technology on the Ruhr-Sieg line between Letmathe and Kreuztal. The new state-of-the-art digital technology makes the rail network more robust and reliable while enabling better control and greater flexibility of trains. Maintenance of the rail line will also take less work and be easier. The inauguration marks the first commissioning of a project in the federal government’s €500-million Fast-track Program.

EUR for the first line signed September 1, 2021.
- Will transform the everyday journeys of passengers across London and southeast England
- Siemens Mobility’s digital signalling and railway management systems make journeys smooth and seamless from station to station
- Complexities managed through careful testing and integration
With Siemens Mobility Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) and rail systems technology at its heart, the Elizabeth line between Paddington and Abbey Wood opened today, 24 May, and is set to transform the everyday journeys of passengers across London and southeast England. Siemens Mobility delivered the central section signalling and the communication and control systems for the new line on behalf of Crossrail Ltd. The CBTC signalling and control system will enable high-frequency and automated train operation for the central section of the Elizabeth line. The technology was designed, manufactured, installed, tested and commissioned at Siemens Mobility facilities in both the United Kingdom and Germany.

- East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension equipped with new signaling system officially opens for revenue service
- 46 km East Rail Line now connects Chinese Mainland border, New Territories, Kowloon to Central Business Districts on Hong Kong Island
- Automatic train control system on the whole East Rail Line enhances operational efficiency
The East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension in Hong Kong successfully commenced passenger service on May 15, 2022, with Siemens Mobility’s Communications-Based Train Control system (CBTC). This completes the automation of the 46 km long East Rail Line connecting the Chinese Mainland border to the central business areas on Hong Kong Island and becomes the fourth railway line crossing Victoria Harbour. The Siemens Mobility digitalized signaling system helps provide passengers with the ability to reach the commercial, convention and financial hubs in the Wan Chai North and Admiralty areas in a faster, safer, and more seamless way.
- New data center in Tallinn, Estonia, targets Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) value of 1.2, against industry average of around 1.6
- Siemens’ AI-powered software optimizes cooling for energy efficiency and reliable operation of critical infrastructure
- Customized power distribution systems from Siemens ensure reliable, safe power supply to the data center
- Data center is powered by renewable energy, with ability to sell waste heat
Siemens has deployed integrated data center
management software at the largest and most energy efficient data center in the
Baltic region. The building management software (BMS), the energy and power
management software (EPMS) and the White Space Cooling Optimization (WSCO) help
Greenergy Data Centers to lower energy usage, ensure thermal protection and
manage reliable operation of the critical infrastructure.
- Open, interoperable software suite ensures grid stability and economic efficiency, manages rising complexity of power grids
- Software speeds up grid simulations up to 6 times and increases efficiency in grid management tasks by 85 percent
- Holistic digital twin of the grid throughout planning, simulation and real-time operation of power grids
- Launch of customer co-innovation collaboration to guide product roadmaps for net zero world
In an
industry first, Siemens Smart Infrastructure announced an open, modular suite
of grid software to address the increasingly critical energy transition. The suite
is a game changer for established energy players and new stakeholders alike,
enabling them to be fast, agile and flexible when coping with existing and
future challenges. Siemens has already made significant steps to improve its offering
for smart meter data management such as a cloud native option or improved task efficiency by up to 85
percent by redefining the user experience. Siemens’ software also
enables customers to run grid protection simulations up to six times faster
than the current speed of execution, supporting utilities to better plan,
operate and maintain power networks. All upcoming modules of the software suite
from Siemens will be developed following specific design principles to interact
seamlessly and enable agility. At the same time, they will keep the power grid
cyber resilient while also creating a digital twin of the grid throughout
planning, simulation, real-time operations and maintenance of power grids.
