Siemens builds fully Automated People Mover at Bangkok Airport

Interlink Communication Public Company Limited has awarded Siemens to deliver its Airval fully Automated People Mover for the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. The Airval will connect the current airport terminal with the new satellite terminal. Siemens is to deliver a total of six two-car trains and the Communication Based Train Control system (CBTC) for fully automated operation.

Siemens to deliver 22 metro trains for Bangkok

Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company (BTSC) has placed an order with a consortium of Siemens and the Turkish public transportation vehicle manufacturer Bozankaya for the delivery of 22 four-unit metro trains. In addition, Siemens will take over their service and maintenance for 16 years. The trains will be manufactured at the Bozankaya factory in Ankara, Turkey. The Siemens scope includes the bogies, traction and braking systems, auxiliary systems, as well as the project management, development, construction and commissioning of the trains. Delivery of the first metro trains is scheduled in 2018, and the order will be completed in the following year. The trains will operate on the existing BTS (Skytrain) system and the Green Line extensions. (The picture shows a design impression.)

Bangkok Blue Line Extension Officially Opens for Full Passenger Revenue Service

Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) and CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited have officially implemented full passenger revenue service for the Blue Line Extension. In support of this project, Siemens Mobility integrated turnkey services delivered 35 three-car metro trains, installed the signaling, built the traction power supply, developed a passenger information system, implemented a SCADA system, provided depot workshop equipment, and instituted system integration by incorporating the telecommunications and platform screen door systems provided by ST Electronics Thailand into the project. In addition to delivering the overall project management, going forward, Siemens Mobility will also provide maintenance for 10 years. The fully completed Blue Line Extension adds 28-kilometers of track, 19 new stations, and an additional 35 three-car trains. The completed extension will now allow the Blue Line to carry approximately 500,000 passengers per day and seamlessly connects the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya river to the rest of the city which suffers from traffic congestion.

The exterior design is a bold new interpretation of the established BTS design language. A black, horizontal band incorporating the side windows extends along the full length of the train. This graphic element features a peak in each door area, re-interpreting the established window shape in a dynamic and contemporary fashion. Thanks to well-positioned blue and red livery bands below and above the window zone, the visual identity of BTS is perceivable from any viewing angle and the trademark colors also remain clearly visible when the elevated train is viewed from ground level.

The cab area sports three-dimensionally sculpted surfaces, further enhancing the prominent graphics. Pointed lines give the front end a proud and determined look. The emergency door incorporates the BTS logo. Visually striking lighting areas are an integral part of the cab's design. The concept features LED technology. Each lighting element is able to change the lighting color from white to red, depending on the train's operating direction.

Continuous handrails meet the highest ergonomic standards, while also reflecting the train's flowing exterior design. The flooring provides a visual distinction between entrance and seating/standing areas by means of different colors, thus improving passenger flow. Draught screens separating the areas feature a prominent BTS logo. Each seating area features seven adjacent seats. Wheelchair areas are easily identifiable by pictograms incorporated in the flooring. The standing areas now also feature perch seats.
