With worldwide energy demand increasing at almost three percent annually and widespread integration of renewable sources some years off, technology to bring maximum efficiency to existing global infrastructure is essential if the world is to reduce environmental impact and preserve natural resources, while meeting its energy needs, Dr Michael Suess, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of the company’s Energy Sector, said.
Signs new long-term agreements with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)
Siemens Energy Service has been awarded long-term contracts for Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) newest power station in operation, the Jebel Ali M-Station. The facility is a 2,000 megawatt (MW) combined-cycle power plant and a 140 MIGD (million impe-rial gallons per day) desalination plant and is located in the United Arab Emirates - Dubai. The power station began commercial operation in 2012 with a power generation capacity to supply approximately one million households in Dubai with clean power generated by high-ly efficient gas turbines. With a secured combined order value of approximately USD450 million, the twelve-year service and parts contracts represent one of Siemens' largest ser-vice agreements in the region. The agreement includes the option for an extension of the service period.
