For the half year ended March 31, 2011, Siemens Ltd. registered Sales of Rs. 5600 crores, a growth of 37% over the comparative period last year, while Profit after Tax grew by 24%to Rs. 522 crores.For the second quarter ended March 31 2011, Sales showed an increase of 37% corresponding to Rs. 3034 crores while Profit after Tax rose by 53% to Rs. 278 crores over the same period last year. New orders in the quarter also registered high growth, up by 59% to Rs. 3299 crores.
Siemens Energy Sector recently launched a new wind turbine for the Indian market at the Wind Power India International Conference and Exhibition 2011 held at ChennaiThe new product SWT-2.3-113 (Direct Drive) with leading technological edge was launched and will target low wind markets with a clear focus on generation based customers. With this launch, Siemens intends to utilize its engineering expertise in energy efficiency to strengthen its local presence by manufacturing and supplying range of wind turbines. Siemens will manufacture these products at Vadodara, Gujarat. The production at Vadodara is slated to commence in 2013 with an annual capacity of 250 MW which will be scaled upto 500 MW by 2015 to meet market demand. The Company is additionally investing in a research and development (R&D) technology center at Vadodara.
With effect from March 14, 2011, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics Ltd. (SHDL) amalgamated with Siemens Ltd. and stands dissolved. Siemens Ltd. has issued and allotted 3,134,700 Equity Shares of ` 2 each fully paid-up to the shareholders of erstwhile SHDL on 24th March, 2011. The entire business and undertaking of the company now gets transferred to and in the name of Siemens Ltd.
First metro line in India to run under a riverSiemens is to supply the complete railway electrification system for Kolkata’s new metro line. The company has received a corresponding order from the Indian operator Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC), including the project management, design, installation and commissioning work, plus personnel training and maintenance throughout the three-year warranty period. The new east-west metro line in Kolkata will have a total length of 14.67 kilometers and serve 12 stations.
Siemens Financial Services Private Limited to support Siemens sales in IndiaIn another step towards its international growth strategy, Siemens has founded Siemens Financial Services Private Limited (SFSPL) in India. SFSPL has filed an application for a Certificate of Registration to commence business of a non-banking financial company, with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Subject to regulatory approval, SFSPL will focus on asset financing business by offering products such as loans, leasing solutions and hire purchase. The company aims to provide financing offerings to Siemens customers in India, particularly in the Healthcare, Industry and Energy Sectors. Sunil Kapoor has been appointed as CEO of the company based in Mumbai.
For the first quarter ended December 31, 2010, Sales for Siemens Ltd. increased by 35% to Rs. 2525 crores demonstrating yet another consecutive quarter of high growth.For the first quarter ended December 31, 2010, Sales increased by 35% to Rs 2525 crores as compared Rs. 1867 crores in Q1 2010. Siemens Ltd., conducted the Ecovatives® Awards, an award to recognize those businesses/organizations who have adopted initiatives in their business to reduce carbon emissions and are being more eco-friendly. Siemens Ecovatives Awards 2010 is a country-wide initiative to identifying these businesses, which Siemens has undertaken in partnership with CNN-IBN. The initiative had 200 Indian corporates responding to this initiative. Siemens AG has announced the first anti-corruption projects that will receive financing from the US$100 million integrity initiative to promote clean markets. This initiative is part of the World Bank-Siemens AG comprehensive settlement that was agreed on July 2, 2009. An initial tranche of US$40 million will now be distributed to more than 30 initiatives from over 20 countries that have been selected. Around 300 nonprofit organizations from 66 countries had applied for funding during the first round.
Siemens Ltd. wins an order worth Rs. 1.27billion (Rs. 127 crore) from Jaypee Sports International Limited (JPSI) for the country’s first Formula1 race track. This project is scheduled to be completed within the next 10 months (July 2011)Siemens will supply, install, design, engineer and commission special electronics package, which is one of the most crucial parts of F1 race tracks. The package includes setting up the Race Control Management system, Video surveillance for racetrack and Video storage, Digital Signaling system (Digi Flag) and Time Keeping system. Additionally, Siemens will also provide the complete IT backbone (VOIP & Data network), Information displays, and Media Distribution system for Media centre for this project.
