- Siemens Industrial Edge closes the gap between local and Cloud computing and enables high-frequency data exchange at field level
- Edge apps for intelligent data analysis and increased productivity
- Industrial Edge includes a backend, Edge devices and Edge apps in Edge Management
With Siemens Industrial Edge, Siemens offers a digitalization solution that adds machine-level data processing to automation devices, by taking the intelligence of Edge computing and thus, sophisticated analytics securely to manufacturing level. Siemens Industrial Edge offers users the opportunity to execute a wide range of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics applications. Cloud connectivity is used in conjunction with Edge apps from Siemens, from third-party providers or from users themselves in an integrated hardware and software ecosystem for automation components.
- „Infinite opportunities from infinite data“ is this year's trade fair motto
- Leveraging the full potential of data from merging the virtual and physical worlds
- "Digitalization knows no end"
- Expansion of the portfolio for edge computing in industry
Under the motto "Infinite opportunities from infinite data", Siemens is demonstrating at the "Digital Enterprise Virtual Experience" at Hannover Messe 2021 how the merging of the physical and virtual worlds enables industrial enterprises to act flexibly and sustainably, as they are facing huge challenges: The Covid 19 pandemic has changed markets and requirements almost overnight. Added to this are the growing individualization and the urgent need for more sustainability. This can only be mastered with the help of digitalization and automation. Siemens brings together the data generated in this process in a continuous cycle between the virtual and physical worlds. This enables companies to better understand and use data. Traditional silos between previously separate industrial domains are breaking down and new opportunities for sustainable and flexible production are being created. This enables employees in industrial enterprises to make appropriate decisions based on data or, for example, to react a lot faster to changes such as suddenly increased resource consumption.
- Third party app providers can now offer solutions based on the Siemens Industrial Edge Platform
- New transaction mechanism – select, buy and use software from the open App Store with just a few clicks
- App providers profit from seamless services and instant access to the industrial automation market
Siemens, a leading provider of automation technology and industrial software, has launched a digital and vendor independent, cross-manufacturer App Store for industry customers. The marketplace serves as a transaction mechanism specifically for the Siemens Industrial Edge platform: an innovative IT platform which enables the scalable deployment of IT technologies and apps in the production environment. In addition to the Siemens Edge apps for the discrete and machine tool industries, third-party providers such as Braincube, Cybus, SeioTec and Tosibox have already started to list their products. Customers thus benefit from a broad range of software components, offered by numerous providers and manufacturers, which they can integrate into their manufacturing processes in a standardized manner. Today, the multifaceted offering already ranges from connectivity, data storage, visualization and analysis right up to machine monitoring, as well as energy and asset management. As an open software platform, Industrial Edge thus constitute an Edge Computing ecosystem.

- Siemens invests 30 million euros in its switchgear plant in Frankfurt-Fechenheim
- Construction of intelligent high-speed warehouse, expansion of the production area and investments in machines and production lines
- Expansion of the fluorine gas-free, gas-insulated product portfolio
- 200 new jobs and additional investment in employee training program
Siemens is
investing 30 million euros to expand its switchgear plant in Frankfurt-Fechenheim.
A smart, fully automated high-speed warehouse and a 1,200 square-meter
extension to an existing hall are being built on the 160,000 square-meter site.
For years, the plant has been experiencing steady growth in incoming orders and
is working at its capacity limit. The additional
production area will support a third assembly line for switchgear, boosting the
site and creating new jobs in the region. Sustainability is an essential
consideration: The plant is expanding its production of environmentally
friendly medium-voltage switchgear, and the two new buildings will have roofs
with photovoltaic systems. At today’s groundbreaking ceremony, Martin Betzmann,
Site Manager of the Frankfurt-Fechenheim switchgear plant, Stephanie Wüst,
member of the city council and Head of Economic Affairs of the city of
Frankfurt am Main, Stephan May, CEO of Electrification & Automation at
Siemens AG, and Steffen Rümmler, Head of the German Business at Siemens Real
Estate, symbolically opened the construction site.
