City of Hamburg, Deutsche Bahn, and Siemens
Mobility sign cooperation agreement for Digitale S-Bahn Hamburg 2.0New
intelligent operations control system to be tested until UITP Congress 2025Partners jointly invest 35 million euros
(Hamburg, July 18,
2023) With the Digitale S-Bahn Hamburg, train travel will become even more
environmentally friendly in the future. Deutsche Bahn (DB), the city of
Hamburg, and Siemens Mobility are introducing a new intelligent operations
control system for the Digitale S-Bahn in Hamburg, aiming to reduce the trains'
power consumption by up to 30 percent. The system will be tested until the UITP
World Congress 2025. The project, costing 35 million euros, is jointly funded
by DB, the city of Hamburg, and Siemens Mobility. A cooperation agreement for
the Digitale S-Bahn Hamburg 2.0 was signed by representatives of the partners
today.
- Sinumerik One is in operation at the BMW Group plant in Steyr, Austria
- High performance through integrated Simatic S7-1500F
Siemens supplies automation hardware and software to the BMW Group. The automation solution includes, among other things, the new generation of the Sinumerik One CNC control, which offers digital possibilities to increase productivity in production. The new automation portfolio will be used at the Steyr production plant in Austria to produce the electric drive housing. It will also help to transform production for the digital age. Siemens and the BMW Group have a long-standing partnership. The success of both companies is based on driving innovation and developing forward-looking technologies, while at the same time focusing on sustainability.
Today, Siemens
Mobility – in partnership with RATP and d’Île-de-France Mobilités – announced
completion of the full automation of Paris Metro Line 4, which is now operated
exclusively using automatic driverless trains. Following a period of mixed
operation during which driver-operated trains ran alongside the automatic
trains, full automation of Line 4 is now a reality. As a leader in the
design and implementation of automated metro systems, Siemens Mobility was
chosen by RATP at the end of 2015 to automate Line 4, three years after the
successful project to automate Line 1 at the end of 2012. With 700,000
passenger each day, Line 4 is the French capital’s second busiest metro line.
Opened in 1908, the route now has 29 stations spread over 14 kilometers.
- ‘Digirail’ project to modernize Finland’s train
control system
- Siemens Mobility selected to equip first phase
with European Train Control System Level 2 and Hybrid Train Detection
- Finland's first
implementation of the European Train Control System drives
rail digitalization
Siemens Mobility will upgrade the
first section of Finland's rail network under the Finnish government's
"Digirail project", which involves renewing the country's train control system. The contract was
recently awarded and includes the installation of the European Train Control
System Levels 2 [ETCS L2] and the Hybrid Train Detection [HTD] for the first
time in Finland on the 191-kilometer stretch between Lielahti and Rauma-Pori. This marks another milestone in the
implementation of Siemens
Mobility's latest interlocking and radio block center technology on the new DS3
platform, which is entirely based on commercial-off-the-shelf [COTS] hardware. The
new train control system aims to increase the network's capacity, improve
punctuality, minimize disruptions, and enhance the safety of operation. It will
pave the way for a more sustainable, efficient, and safe railway network and is
expected to be in commercial service by 2027.
Whether for workpiece handling, retooling, postprocessing or parallel
machining, robots and machine tools are working ever more closely together.
Companies in almost all industrial sectors already benefit from robots today.
But integrating robots into automation and exploiting their full potential poses
many challenges. Under the motto "Seamless and fast integration of robot
kinematics into automation", Siemens will be presenting at this year's
automatica (Hall B6, Booth 302) how companies can overcome these
challenges and how the digital and real worlds can be connected through
robotics and automation solutions.
- Bustanica, the Dubai-based vertical farming company, requires 95% less water than a conventional plot, and yields more than 1 million kg of produce free of pesticides, herbicides and chemicals
- Siemens provided building systems and automation hardware and software from its Digital Industries and Smart Infrastructure portfolios
- Building systems, automation software and hardware are part of Siemens Xcelerator
Siemens provided automation and building technology
to the recently opened Bustanica vertical farm in Dubai, the world’s largest of
its kind. The $40 million facility is owned by Emirates Crop One, a joint venture
between Emirates Flight Catering, one of the world’s largest catering
operations serving more than 100 airlines, and Crop One Holdings Inc., an
industry leader in technology-driven indoor vertical farming.
- Brightline
to implement Sqills S3 Passenger system
- Implementation
to support service expansion to Orlando
- Increased
capacity, improved passenger experience
Brightline will begin implementing S3 Passenger, the inventory,
ticketing, and reservation system offered by Sqills, a Siemens Mobility
subsidiary, beginning with revenue service connecting Orlando. Brightline currently
operates in Florida between Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and
West Palm Beach with its Orlando station beginning service in 2023.
- Y-turning and Advanced Rapid Movement for even more machine tool productivity
- Reduced Dynamic Mode reduces wear and increases availability
- End-to-end keyboard and machine control panel portfolio from 15 to 24 inches
Siemens is expanding its
offering around the Sinumerik One "digital native" CNC. The new CNC
generation from Siemens, which was introduced to the market in 2019, is also
coming up with innovations in software and hardware this year. With the new
Sinumerik V6.20 software, there are new technology functions for the Sinumerik
One that simplify operation, reduce machine wear, and increase productivity.
Siemens is thus demonstrating once again how the powerful Sinumerik One machine
tool control system can be optimally used for digital transformation in a
highly productive, flexible, and modular way.
- Prototype Megawatt Charging System [MCS] from Siemens successfully delivered a 1MW charge
- The new technology highlights the potential for megawatt charging to redefine long haul trucking
- The Siemens SICHARGE Megawatt Charging System used is based on its SICHARGE portfolio with a customized MCS dispenser
Siemens Smart Infrastructure has completed the first successful 1MW charge, in a pilot which brought together a prototype MCS charging station from Siemens and a long-haul prototype eTruck from a well-established OEM.

- Easy engineering thanks to integration in TIA, integrated web server and one-button tuning function
With Sinamics S200, Siemens is launching a new servo drive system designed
for a variety of standard applications in the battery, electronics as well as other
industries. It consists of a precise servo drive, powerful servo motors and
easy-to-use cables and offers high dynamic performance. Applications that
require precision in speed and torque, such as winding and unwinding machines in
battery manufacturing and cell assembly, particularly benefit from the new
servo drive system. For this purpose, Sinamics S200 offers optimized speed
ripple, cogging torque compensation, 17/21-bit ST and 21-bit MT encoders, and
cycle-synchronous communication for optimized performance by
Profinet IRT in minimum 250us.
