cybersecurity for guaranteed availability
Siemens Mobility and RazorSecure have signed a cooperation agreement to provide Rolling Stock operators worldwide with enhanced rail cybersecurity monitoring solutions. Increasing digitalization brings benefits, but also the need for adequate protection against cyber-attacks. The two companies will therefore pool their know-how to secure complex transport systems: RazorSecure is a specialist in providing rail cybersecurity solutions and continuously monitors the behavior of individual systems and traffic across the full network in real-time. Siemens Mobility is committed to guaranteeing availability of rail systems with its smart digital asset management systems such as Railigent.

One of Australia’s leading bus manufacturers, Custom Denning, has selected Siemens’ electric bus charging stations and digital depot management solution forits fleet of fully Australian designed and built Element electric buses. The charging stations will support the bus manufacturer’s prototype electric buses and be available for future eBus orders of its customers.

Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Siemens Mobility have developed the world’s first train that operates by itself in rail traffic. Dr. Richard Lutz, CEO of DB, and Dr. Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens AG, together with Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg, presented the train today as it made its premiere run as part of the Digital S-Bahn Hamburg project.

Siemens Mobility has completed the acquisition of the Netherlands based company Sqills. Sqills is a leading provider in the provision of cloud-based inventory management, reservation, and ticketing software to public transport operators around the world. Sqills will be managed as separate legal entity and wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens Mobility, a structure that will allow Sqills to strengthen its leading position in offering innovative, smart, and comprehensive mobility solutions.

Siemens Mobility has received an order to build 23 4-car Mireo trainsets for rail operator agilis Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of BeNEX GmbH. The trainsets will be delivered for the Regensburg/Danube Valley rail network in 2024 and are scheduled to enter passenger service in December that year. The Bavarian Railways Company (Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft or BEG), which plans, finances and controls regional and commuter rail operations on behalf of the state of Bavaria, had called for bids for new trains for parts of its network. The Mireo trains will serve on the new RE Line 50 (Nuremberg – Regensburg – Plattling) and the RB Line 51 (Neumarkt – Regensburg – Plattling).

Cargounit, the largest independent locomotive leasing company in Poland,
has ordered up to 30 Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The
framework agreement includes the delivery of ten units by the end of 2023 and
an option for 20 additional locomotives by 2024 as well as the maintenance of
the vehicles. The first two locomotives will be delivered this year. The
locomotives are planned for service in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic,
Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia, the Netherlands and
optionally Romania and Bulgaria. The leasing company previously ordered six
locomotives from Siemens Mobility in 2018 and 2019. Cargounit’s Vectron fleet
could grow to 36 locomotives by 2024.

Siemens Mobility is honored to announce that it has signed a contract with the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), in witness of the Egyptian Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, as well as the German Ambassador in Egypt to deliver a comprehensive rail system that will feature the first ever high-speed, electrified main and freight rail line that will transform transportation in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Together with partners Orascom Construction S.A.E. and The Arab Contractors, Siemens Mobility will provide its comprehensive turnkey services to design, install, commission, and maintain the systems for 15 years. The total contract value is approximately USD 4.5 billion, of which Siemens Mobility’s share is around USD 3 billion. The vast majority of the order intake is expected to be booked in 2022 after financial closing. It is the first contract to be signed from the MoU agreed upon between NAT and Siemens Mobility, Orascom Construction and The Arab Contractors in January 2021.

planned. Additionally, it was agreed to discuss and finalize
the agreements on the two other high-speed railway lines including rail
infrastructure and trains, and maintenance in the coming months.

Siemens Mobility’s S700 streetcars delivered to the Charlotte Area Transit system (CATS) in the United States are now in revenue service. Designed with advanced hybrid technology that features an innovative battery storage system, these new streetcars run wirelessly through the heart of the city, maintaining a catenary-free zone in the city’s central business district, while offering all the same sustainability benefits as when operating with overhead wires. The six new S700 streetcars join Charlotte’s current light rail fleet of 42 S70 light rail vehicles, bringing the total number of Siemens Mobility vehicles operated by CATS to 48.

Siemens
Mobility and ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH successfully demonstrated a test
of the mFUND’s AStriD (“Autonomous Tram in Depot”) research project at a press
conference today. A consortium consisting of Siemens Mobility, ViP Verkehrsbetrieb
Potsdam GmbH, the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT), the Institute for Climate
Protection, Energy and Mobility (IKEM), and Codewerk GmbH began its joint
research on a fully automated tram depot in October 2019. The technology is
expected to be market-ready in 2026.
