Siemens is
launching its new Industrial Edge Management System, an optimized license
management solution as well as new devices and apps at the SPS trade fair in
Nuremberg, Germany from November 8 to 10, 2022. As part of the company’s
continuous development of its Industrial Edge capabilities, these solutions
bring Operational technology (OT) and IT closer together in industrial
production, enabling a seamless flow of data from the field level to the cloud.

Sustainability is the leading theme of this year's world's flagship trade fair for the process industry, ACHEMA, in Frankfurt. In the Green Innovation Zone and the Digital Hub at the fair, Siemens will show how industrial companies can efficiently combine digitalization and sustainability. "As one of the main CO2 emitters, the process industry is under particular pressure to produce in a climate-friendly way," says Eckard Eberle, CEO Process Automation at Siemens. "Holistic and effective sustainability management can only work if industrial companies consistently focus on digitalization and automation." In more than 20 lectures and best-practice presentations, Siemens will illustrate how companies can use digitalization and automation and make their products, plants, and processes more sustainable.

At the
Smart Production Solutions (SPS) fair in Nuremberg, Germany, November. 8-10,
Siemens will be presenting technical innovations and practical examples for
greater sustainability in production. Easier, more open, more flexible and more
sustainable production and planning processes – all of this is achieved through
end-to-end automation and digitization to become a digital enterprise.

At EMO 2019 in Hanover, Siemens is presenting the latest services for the digitalization of machine tools. With its "Digital Transformation Awareness & Consulting CNC", Siemens offers a consulting service for the development of an individual digitalization strategy. In addition to workshops for the identification of action areas and development of the digitalization strategy, target group-specific training sessions provide more in-depth knowledge and promote wider acceptance of the digital transformation. With Brownfield Connectivity Services, Siemens is also offering additional services: using a gateway, users can connect both Sinumerik CNCs and controllers and automation solutions from third-party providers to higher-level networks. Industrial companies are increasingly relying on
what’s known as edge computing in their production. It allows them to capture
and process data where it’s generated: at the field level in the plant. At this
year's SPS trade show in Nuremberg, the technology company Siemens is expanding
its range of products and services for Industrial Edge at all levels. This will
allow users to connect their information technology (IT) even better with the
operational level (OT). Industrial Edge is also part of the portfolio of the Siemens
Xcelerator open and flexible business platform.

For the first time, the technology company Siemens is launching a private infrastructure developed in-house for the 5G mobile communications standard. The solution enables industrial companies to build their own local 5G networks that will provide optimal support for automation applications. "By building their own 5G networks, industrial companies are launching the next stage of connected production," says Axel Lorenz, CEO of Process Automation at Siemens. "5G is crucial for applications like mobile robots, autonomous logistics, and driverless transport systems in factories. Siemens' private 5G infrastructure also gives users sole control over the data in their 5G network at all times, and they can custom-configure the network for their applications."

In the age of digitalization, data is the new gold. With its new Field
Data Enablement Portfolio, Siemens is now making unused field data accessible
to IT and thus making manufacturing companies more efficient and future-proof.
In many production plants, there’s still lots of hidden potential for
optimization at the field level, for example in automating machines and
systems. Currently only about 20 percent of the total volume of data is used.
Until now, data has been provided to IT systems by the controller, which sends
data from the shop floor to edge or cloud systems. This means data that’s not
available in the controller remains unavailable to IT, such as information
about commissioning. Field Data Enablement now enables the convergence of IT
and OT data with no need to reprogram the controller. This makes OT data
accessible to IT systems that would otherwise remain unused or could only be accessed
with great time and effort and with disruptions in running production plants.
