Siemens has won the German Sustainability Award 2011 for its strategy. The jury was impressed with the consistency of Siemens' focus on sustainability as one of its most important growth areas. "For Siemens, sustainability is not only a basic ethical principle, but also a question of market and business potential in global competition. It is thanks to our employees that we have received the German Sustainability Award today: with commitment and enthusiasm, they are putting sustainability at Siemens into practice and ensuring its continuation in the future," said Barbara Kux, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and Chief Sustainability Officer.
Over the next three years, Siemens AG intends – together with its partners – to invest €1 billion in Russia. Peter Löscher, President and CEO of Siemens AG, announced this initiative in Moscow today at the annual meeting of the Foreign Investment Advisory Council chaired by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin. As a provider of innovative technologies for power generation and transmission, mobility and solutions for urban infrastructures, Siemens can play a key role in Russia's modernization. The company will therefore systematically expand its presence in the country. For example, plans call for the new construction or expansion of locations for production, research and development (R&D) and services in regions such as Yekaterinburg, Perm, St. Petersburg and Voronezh. About 4,000 specialist jobs will be created overall. "Our far-reaching investments underscore Russia's great importance as a strategic core market for Siemens. By entering into a technology partnership, we're supporting the country's ambitious modernization plans and placing our close cooperation with our Russian partners on a new, even broader basis," said Peter Löscher.
Siemens will start off fiscal 2012 on October 1, 2011 with a further developed structure. The newly founded Infrastructure & Cities Sector begins operation on that day, as planned. In the future, the operating businesses of Siemens will be organized in the Industry, Infrastructure & Cities, Energy, and Healthcare Sectors. By forming the new Sector, the company plans to be a leading participant in the dynamic growth of cities and infrastructure investments. "We are rigorously focusing our business on growth. Our new setup will put us even closer to our customers. The Infrastructure & Cities Sector will open up additional business opportunities in the growth market of cities," said Peter Löscher, President and CEO of Siemens AG. "Cities face the enormous challenge of reconciling urban growth with a good quality of life. We can offer them comprehensive solutions from one hand to achieve this. In order to better serve the needs of cities, we are focusing the new Sector specifically on cities and infrastructure," stated Roland Busch, CEO of the Infrastructure & Cities Sector.
In connection with implementing the North European Center for Radio-Oncology in Kiel (NRoCK), the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) and Siemens AG have signed a declaration of intent to dissolve their existing contracts. Negotiated under the auspices of the Minister of Economy and Science of Schleswig-Holstein, Jost de Jager, the declaration foresees favorable terms for equipping the UKSH with one of Germany's most advanced and efficient centers for the conventional radiotherapy treatment of cancer patients. Work by Siemens to set up a particle therapy facility on the basis of proton and carbon-ion radiation is to be discontinued.

We released our results for the third quarter of fiscal 2011 on July 28, 2011. The conference call was broadcast live on the internet.
"We continued to grow in the third quarter and are on track to reach our targets for fiscal 2011," said Siemens CEO Peter Löscher. "New orders again rose sharply, driven by a large order at Mobility. We're vigorously tackling operating challenges. Our markets are still robust, although risks are tending to increase in the global economic environment."
Siemens achieved strong growth again in the third quarter of fiscal 2011. New orders climbed 20 percent year-over-year. Revenue rose two percent. These figures include negative currency translation effects that took five percentage points from new orders as well as revenue. Income from continuing operations was below the prior-year figure. This decline was due to negative profit impacts in connection with an arbitration decision and in connection with the particle therapy business. "We continued to grow in the third quarter and are on track to reach our targets for fiscal 2011. New orders rose again sharply, driven by a large order at Mobility. We're vigorously tackling operating challenges. Our markets are still robust, although risks are tending to increase in the global economic environment," said Siemens President and CEO Peter Löscher.
