Building on its commitment to innovative power plant solutions, Siemens has been awarded a contract from Colbún S.A. to upgrade the Central Termoeléctrica Nehuenco-I plant with Siemens' Power Plant Automation T3000 Cue (SPPA-T3000) system. The 368-megawatt (MW) combined cycle power plant is located in Quillota, Valparaíso Region, in Chile and provides electricity to approximately 350,000 homes in the region.

Southwest Airlines® has chosen Siemens to install a new baggage handling system in Terminal 1 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The project covers layout, engineering, assembly, commissioning and integration of a completely new outbound baggage screening system and a new inbound baggage handling system. The extension and conversion work will be performed during ongoing operations with completion planned for summer 2017.

Siemens AG
has signed an agreement to acquire the industrial drive technology (IDT)
business of ebm-papst. The business, which employs around 650 people, includes intelligent,
integrated mechatronic systems in the protective extra-low voltage range and
innovative motion control systems. These systems are used in free-range
driverless transport systems. The planned acquisition will complement the Siemens
Xcelerator portfolio and strengthen Siemens’ position as a leading solutions provider
for flexible production automation.

Siemens delivered solid performance in the second quarter, successfully meeting the high demand for digitalization and sustainability technology. Notably, the industrial software business showed strong growth with particularly high demand in the semiconductor industry. Demand from customers for the construction of data centers also showed strong momentum. Currently muted demand in the short-cycle automation business at Digital Industries, particularly in China and Europe, was largely offset by strong revenue development at Smart Infrastructure and Mobility. In addition, Siemens took a key step in focusing its portfolio with the sale of Innomotics to KPS Capital Partners for €3.5 billion.
