- Traditional agriculture is coming under increasing pressure from climate change: Today indoor farming offers a resource-conserving alternative
- Siemens supplies automation and digitalization technologies to make indoor farming safer and more productive
- By working with Siemens, indoor farming company 80 Acres Farms can run farms on 100 percent renewable energy, yield 300 times more than conventional farmland, and use 95 percent less water
Growing lettuce in the
desert using environmentally friendly methods? Yes, it’s possible. Looking
ahead, it’s important to start developing new concepts for agriculture. By
2050, 10 billion people are expected to live on our planet, and they’ll all
want to be fed. But new agricultural land is becoming scarce, and more and more
farmers are struggling with water shortages. Indoor farming is therefore an
intelligent solution for reliably and energy-efficiently creating perfect
growing conditions for plants. This will help meet the growing challenges of
food supply and food security.
- End-to-end automation and digitalization of all process steps enables the industrialization of additive manufacturing
- Simulation and digital twins help to test and implement profitability and scalability
- Individual financing models lower investment hurdle and time-to-market
- Carbon footprint to be reduced by up to 58 percent with additively manufactured eyewear
Siemens enables the
start-up You Mawo in offering bespoke eyeglass frames in such a way that they
are accessible, affordable, and sustainable for a broad market and You Mawo can
have them produced in an economically cost-effective and responsible way. The
customization process considers parameters such as design, a perfect fit for
the person wearing the glasses, and color.
- New hardware and software available for Siemens' Industrial Edge ecosystem
- Industrial Edge Management System now cloud-based As-a-Service
- Low code for Industrial Edge: Simplifying edge app programming with Mendix on Edge
- Market launch at this year's SPS trade show in Nuremberg as part of Siemens Xcelerator
Industrial companies are increasingly relying on
what’s known as edge computing in their production. It allows them to capture
and process data where it’s generated: at the field level in the plant. At this
year's SPS trade show in Nuremberg, the technology company Siemens is expanding
its range of products and services for Industrial Edge at all levels. This will
allow users to connect their information technology (IT) even better with the
operational level (OT). Industrial Edge is also part of the portfolio of the Siemens
Xcelerator open and flexible business platform.
- In a pilot project, Siemens is combining its Sigreen emissions management software with BayWa Carbon Connect, BayWa’s software for emissions offsetting
- The real carbon footprint of products is made transparent across the supply chain, from emission generation and reduction to offsetting
- In an initial use case, Siemens is offsetting the carbon emissions of selected products of the Simatic S7-1500 family at the Electronics Works Amberg for the duration of the project
The technology company Siemens and BayWa AG are working together to advance CO2-optimized industrial production. As part of a pilot project, the two companies are combining Sigreen, Siemens’ software for emissions management, with BayWa Carbon Connect, BayWa’s software for emissions offsetting.
