- Upgrades to help improve infrastructure, support operational excellence and enhance student living-learning experience
As part of its 10-year strategic plan, ‘Transformation Morgan
2030: Leading the Future,’ Baltimore-based Morgan State University (MSU) has
partnered with Siemens on its journey to becoming a smart and connected campus
of the future. Improvements currently underway include implementing a series of
modernization upgrades to the university’s heating, ventilation, and air
conditioning (HVAC), security, and fire and life safety systems with a focus on
energy efficiency, resiliency and sustainability. All work is umbrellaed under
a master service agreement between Maryland Clean Energy Center, Siemens and
MSU to support the university’s campus transformation.
- American Electric Power chooses Siemens’ PSS®CAPE industry-leading software for highly detailed protection simulation
- Software interoperability allows AEP to seamlessly synchronize and exchange model data across planning, operations, and protection
- Accelerates energy transition by enabling sustainable integration of decentralized renewable energy resources to the grid
- Order underscores Siemens Xcelerator strategy for open, interoperable, flexible software to accelerate energy transition at scale
Siemens
will replace American Electric Power’s (AEP) existing
protection simulation operation software with PSS®CAPE. Ohio-based AEP,
the largest transmission grid operator in the U.S., serves 5.5 million
customers across 11 states and maintains the largest transmission network in
the country with over 40,000 miles of transmission lines. As grid planning and
operations becomes more complex, traditional, siloed manual practices for
sharing model data across departments are no longer optimal. AEP is creating a unified
digital model of its entire transmission network, called T-Nexus, consisting of
one common network model that all departments work
from to ensure reliable planning, operation, and protection of the power grid.
- Companies will jointly offer a technology portfolio for buildings, including everything from energy efficiency and user experience to connectivity, security and data analysis

Xcelerator, an open digital business platform launched today to accelerate
digital transformation and value creation across industry, transportation,
grids and buildings.
- Smart Infrastructure completes acquisition of Brightly, a leader in
cloud-based asset and maintenance management software
- Acquisition puts Siemens in pole position to address fast-growing software
market for buildings and built infrastructure
Siemens Smart Infrastructure (SI), the frontrunner in digital buildings, has
completed the acquisition of Brightly Software, a leading U.S.-based software-as-a-service
(SaaS) provider of asset and maintenance management solutions. The acquisition elevates
SI to a leading position in the software market for buildings and built
infrastructure. It adds Brightly’s well-established cloud-based capabilities across
key sectors – education, public infrastructure, healthcare, and manufacturing –
to Siemens’ digital and software know-how in buildings. Brightly’s addition to
the Siemens portfolio accelerates the build-up of SI’s SaaS business, enabling
the companies to deliver superior performance and sustainability for built
infrastructure.
- Finance proves crucial for Siemens Gamesa customers across the globe
- Preferred finance agreement with Siemens Financial Services offers bundled equipment, service and capital solutions for wind industry
- Bosco Le Piane project in Italy benefits from collaboration
Helping wind energy customers overcome funding obstacles, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has teamed up with Siemens Financial Services (SFS) to offer bundled solutions that include equipment and service with financing options. Finance is one of the biggest barriers facing clients as it varies from market to market, and the ability to offer financial solutions has proved to be a win-win in bringing clean energy projects online for Siemens Gamesa customers worldwide. Most recently, the Bosco Le Piane wind project in Italy benefited from this Siemens Gamesa-SFS collaboration. This is the fourth large-scale onshore wind farm in Italy financed by SFS in support of key clients that incorporate Siemens Gamesa technology. The other projects were Melfi, Tricarico and E-Vento.

- The two companies intend to work together to close gaps in the standardization of inductive charging systems
- Plans include technical collaboration and joint interoperability tests
Siemens and MAHLE intend to collaborate in
the field of inductive charging of electric vehicles. Both companies have
signed a letter of intent to this effect. “Wireless charging of electric
vehicles is emerging as a major market for the future. In addition to making
life considerably easier for drivers, who no longer have to fiddle with cables
and connectors, it is a crucial requirement for the autonomous mobility of
tomorrow. The transfer efficiency of wireless, inductive charging is comparable
to plug-in systems,” said Stefan Perras, Head of Pre-development and Innovation
for Charging Infrastructure at Siemens AG.
Under the motto "Digitalize your building," Siemens showed at the light+building trade fair from March 18 to 23, 2018 how commercial buildings can be comfortable while also offering economical operation. Encompassing 1,100 square meters, the Siemens booth featured smart products, solutions and systems. For this, Financial Services from Siemens offers the right financial solution.
