- SF6-free high-voltage switchgear and ester-filled transformer complete demo project, delivering an integrated clean energy solution for China
- First implementation of Siemens Energy’s 66 kV technologies for wind turbine applications in China
Siemens Energy commissioned an eco-friendly power transmission system complementing one of China’s largest offshore eight-megawatt (MW) wind turbines. The system consists of a SF6(sulfur hexafluoride)-free gas-insulated high-voltage switchgear (GIS) called 8VM1 Blue GIS® and a liquid-immersed distribution transformer with ester fluid. It is part of a demo project by Shanghai Electric, located at Shantou Haojiang onshore Industrial Park on the east coast of Guangdong, South China.
- First-of-its-kind drilling rig project will implement customized BlueDrive™ system to replace obsolete system
- New system will use existing footprint, cabling and communication points for greater safety and quick commissioning
Siemens was awarded a contract by Arabian Drilling Company to modernize a complete and integrated drilling-drives lineup, including auxiliaries and controls, that will be installed on an offshore jackup drilling rig for a customer in the Middle East. In addition to new features and benefits, the upgrade will also enable the customer to meet the latest safety standards. Delivery of the new system is planned for the early part of 2021.
- Siemens will upgrade control and protection system of Moyle Interconnector
- Refurbishment increases security of supply, improves integration of renewable energy and enhances provision of ancillary services
Siemens Gas and Power (Siemens Energy) has been awarded the project to refurbish the Moyle Interconnector, a high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) link between Ballycronan More in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and Auchencrosh, Scotland. Owned and operated by Mutual Energy, the Moyle Interconnector control and protection system is almost 20 years old and is being modernized to enhance its operation. The refurbishment of the 500-megawatt interconnector will increase the security and reliability of the power supply to consumers in the United Kingdom. The project to upgrade the technology originally installed by Siemens in 2001 is now underway and the refurbishment is scheduled to be completed in September 2022.
- Dynamic load flow control solution for grid stabilization and resilience
- UPFC PLUS controls load flow in milliseconds
- Facilitating the increasing integration of renewable energy
With its new Unified Power Flow Controller, called UPFC PLUS, Siemens Energy is expanding the options for grid stabilization. The UPFC PLUS will help system operators stabilize the grid by dynamically controlling the load flow in alternating-current grids. Easy to integrate into existing infrastructure, the UPFC PLUS improves the efficiency of today’s power grid while providing the grid stability and resilience required in the ever-changing energy landscape.
- Gas turbine rotor exchange allows for increased output and efficiency
- Control system upgraded to latest version of SPPA-T3000
The Dunamenti Power Plant in Százhalombatta, Hungary, is the largest gas-fired power plant in the country with a capacity of 794 megawatts (MW), making it a major source of reliable electricity in Hungary. Recently, in collaboration with the customer and plant owner, MET Asset Management AG, and within the scope of an overhaul project, Siemens Gas and Power replaced the entire rotor of the plant's SGT5-2000E gas turbine and installed a new, state-of-the-art SPPA-T3000 control system.
- Siemens, MW Storage International, Fluence and Vibeco develop unique ecosystem for global beverage manufacturer
- Solution to enable new levels of energy optimization
- Encompasses software, financing, latest storage technology
- Sinebrychoff’s first energy storage service contract
In a move that brings new market opportunities for industrial players, Siemens has developed a unique business model to support the next level of energy optimization for Finnish brewery Sinebrychoff, a subsidiary of the international Carlsberg Group. At the heart of the solution, which will be implemented at Sinebrychoff’s plant in greater Helsinki, is a virtual power plant (VPP) and the latest energy storage technology, supported with financing solutions, to create one of the first examples of power flexibility in an industrial site.
- First Siemens Energy electrolysis project in China
- Cooperation with SPIC on green hydrogen
- Lighthouse project for ongoing energy transition
Siemens Energy and Beijing Green Hydrogen Technology Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Power International Development Ltd. (China Power), signed an agreement on providing a hydrogen production system for a hydrogen fueling station. Located in Yanqing District, Beijing, one of the three main competition areas for a major sporting event in 2022, the green hydrogen production solution provided by Siemens Energy will help guarantee the hydrogen supply for the public transportation during and after the event. The megawatt green hydrogen production solution is the first of its kind to be built by Siemens Energy in China. The project is expected to be delivered in May 2021.
- Siemens will refurbish 30-year-old HVDC back-to-back system in the State of Madhya Pradesh in India
- Modernization will extend the lifetime to ensure reliable power supply
- First Siemens refurbishment project of a third-party HVDC system
Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID), the Central Transmission Utility of India, has chosen Siemens to modernize the country's first and oldest high voltage direct current (HVDC) link, Vindhyachal. Located in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, the 500-megawatt HVDC back-to-back system was put into operation in 1989 to interconnect the asynchronous 400-kilovolt alternating current networks of the Northern and Western regions. By installing its latest HVDC components Siemens will extend the useful life of the link. This will be the first Siemens HVDC modernization project in India and globally the company's first refurbishment of a third-party system involving replacement of the thyristor valves. The upgrade is expected to be completed in 2021.
