Siemens Mobility announced today the winners of the company’s Supplier Award for 2020. The award honors suppliers who made significant contributions to Siemens Mobility’s success in fiscal 2020 with their outstanding performance. The award was presented in five categories. Trispel GmbH in Germany took top honors in the category “Technology & Innovation.” The category “Logistics Performance” was won by the Spanish firm Industrial de Transformados. India’s Apar Industries was picked best supplier in the category “Competitiveness.” The winner in the category “Quality” was Germany’s ml&s GmbH & Co. KG, and the special “Moving beyond” award went to Lucchini RS in Italy. Over 400 suppliers were invited to the virtual award ceremony. The awards were presented virtually by Karl Blaim, Chief Financial Officer and member of the Siemens Mobility Managing Board, together with Rainer Straub, the company’s Chief Procurement Officer.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure (SI) has teamed up with Auto-Info to jointly develop a modular COVID-19 examination unit. The mobile lab structure and system have been designed to avoid contamination among patients or from patients to medical staff by using the Climatix IC platform, a flexible and scalable advanced HVAC control solution from Siemens.

White Space Cooling Optimization for highly efficient greenfield data center in Paris region

Siemens Smart Infrastructure is supplying the first Tier IV-certified data center in the region of Paris, France. The “Thésée” data center will meet the highest industry standards for availability and energy efficiency. Siemens will install its White Space Cooling Optimization (WSCO) smart solution to optimize the building’s energy efficiency as well as the thermal protection of the server rooms by automatically adjusting the operation of the cooling systems.

In partnership with Tower Transit, a bus operator in London and part of
the SeaLink Travel Group, Siemens Smart Infrastructure provided the charging
infrastructure for 37 new fully-electric double decker buses in London.
Westbourne Park garage, on the Great Western Road, is the operator’s first
depot in London incorporating fully electric routes with power infrastructure,
maintenance and charging facilities. Bus routes 23 and C3 operate from the
Westbourne Park site, with the first few Optare Metrodecker zero-emission
double-deckers already in operation, the remaining fleet is expected to be in
service in the next months.

Siemens and science and technology company Merck will work together in future at Merck's headquarters in Darmstadt to develop a technical backbone for the modular production of the future. The aim is to create a production line that flexibly combines various individual process modules and to use Module Type Package (MTP) and Process Orchestration Layer (POL) technology to drastically reduce engineering effort. At the same time, it should be possible to adapt quickly to process requirements. With its integrated product range covering all production levels (field to MES), Siemens is able to provide all the necessary hardware and software components from its own product portfolio.

Together with Siemens Mobility, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG has put a completely new digitalisation solution in the field of safety and security technology into operation at the train station in Achau, Austria: The “Distributed Smart Safe System” (DS3) is an innovative digitalisation solution and the basis for cloud-enabled interlocking (“Interlocking in the Cloud”).

Siemens has supplemented the Mindsphere application Predictive Service Assistance with an AI-based module. The new Artificial Intelligence module identifies concrete fault patterns in motors at an early stage, such as misalignment or a defective bearing. The application thus helps users to reduce downtimes and further improve spare parts and maintenance processes. The new Artificial Intelligence module for motors uses a neural network to solve what was previously implemented using a defined KPI limit value. This enables the module to detect anomalies even before the defined limit value and provides clear indications of the type and severity of faults and their development. As soon as the application detects signs of an error, it warns the user and generates a due date that indicates when the error should ideally be corrected and what corrective action is recommended to prevent an unplanned downtime. Predictive Service Assistance with the new AI-based Artificial Intelligence module is offered as part of a Predictive Service Assessment. The package includes a customized configuration service that ensures that the Mindsphere application with the new AI-based module runs optimally according to the customer's requirements.

Siemens is
expanding its offer for industrial IoT solutions, adding to its Industrial Edge

Siemens Mobility and prominent partners have won two innovative research projects from the German Center for Rail Traffic Research (DZSF) to study the safety of automated rail operations. The aim is to define the criteria needed for approving fully automated regional and mainline rail service. The two projects will be funded with €1.7 million and are scheduled to run for 30 months.
