Siemens provides sustainable energy for Galapagos Island

After only ten months of planning and ten months of construction, the hybrid power plant installed by Siemens on the Galapagos island of Isabela was inaugurated at the End of November 2018. The aim of the project was to convert the current power generation structure, which is based on fossil fuels, to a hybrid system with several primary energy sources. The system is designed to run carbon-neutral with biofuel and solar energy and supplies almost 900 households on the by far largest Galapagos Island with electricity.

The solar park components needed up to the 33 kV level can be designed as a "plug-and-play MV station", and can therefore be installed as a standalone unit without major construction cost.
