“The 2,000th electric
Vectron locomotive represents far more than just a production number – it
stands for the trust that railway operators across Europe place in our platform
every day. Vectron combines versatility and interoperability with the
flexibility to meet a wide range of requirements in European markets. With the
digital Vectron X, we are consistently further developing this successful
platform and opening the next chapter in its success story,” says Steffen
Bobsien, Vice President Locomotives and Coaches at Siemens Mobility.
The Vectron
locomotive is designed for cross-border operations in Europe and has been
manufactured at the Siemens Mobility plant in Munich-Allach since its market
launch in 2012. The locomotives are approved in 20 countries and are uniquely
certified for speeds of up to 230 km/h in passenger service. Its multi-system
capabilities and extensive country approvals firmly establish the Vectron as
the standard choice for international rail corridors.
Siemens Mobility has recently presented the next generation
of its successful Vectron platform with the digital Vectron X. For the first
time, Siemens Mobility is bringing an app store into the driver’s cab and
expanding the locomotive with app-based applications. Vectron X transforms the
locomotive into an open digital platform and the driver’s cab into a connected
workplace. Through the app store, operators can use applications from Siemens
Mobility and third-party providers directly on the integrated Smart Screen.
Digital functions such as Remote Start, Vectron Eco Cruise and Trainplay, along
with the provision of structured vehicle data via standardized interfaces,
condition monitoring and maintenance coordination, support more efficient
operations, higher availability and predictive maintenance.
