SICAM Enhanced Grid Sensor forms part of the Electrification X offering, a
key component of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio
Siemens Smart Infrastructure has delivered to the market an essential solution for
accelerating a successful energy transition - the SICAM Enhanced Grid Sensor
(EGS), designed to address the key challenge of distribution network transparency
for grid operators. With only 22 percent of citywide smart grids deemed to be mature
or advanced according to respondents in the recent Infrastructure Transition
Monitor, the new solution will play a pivotal role in digitalizing distribution grids,
enabling grid operators to achieve full network transparency.
All-in-one solution for distribution network transparency provides new
levels of visibility and control for the most resilient and secure power grids

SICAM Enhanced Grid Sensor
Part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, an open digital business platform that
enables customers to accelerate their digital transformation easier, faster, and at
scale, this innovative solution sets a new standard in grid monitoring, providing up to
100 percent transparency of local grid and distribution substations.
“Transparency into the distribution network is vital for enabling the energy transition
as it allows for optimized maintenance, efficient resource allocation, minimized
downtime, and greater renewable energy generation and integration,” said Stephan May, CEO of Electrification and Automation at Siemens Smart Infrastructure. “With
the SICAM EGS we are entering a new era of network visibility and further
equipping our customers with the solutions they need to accelerate the energy
transition.”
The SICAM EGS ensures optimized utilization of existing infrastructure by
continuously monitoring the network, preventing overloading and ensuring efficient
power distribution. As a plug-and-play solution, the enhanced grid sensor provides a
cost-effective and straightforward installation process with minimal downtime. Built
on proven SICAM A8000 technology, SICAM EGS is an investment in the future,
ensuring reliability and longevity, while providing a flexible and easily expandable
solution for evolving grid requirements. SICAM EGS also adheres to the highest
cybersecurity standards, offering secure updates and protection against cyber
threats and goes beyond local network stations, providing connectivity to system
connections and enabling cloud-based monitoring and control.
The SICAM EGS is highly versatile, serving various use cases, including power
distribution monitoring, asset monitoring for transformers and switchgears, grid
connection monitoring for renewable energy sources, and serving as a
communication gateway for different networks and protocols. Additionally, as part of
the SICAM 8 product platform, SICAM EGS is based on the adapted hardware of
the SICAM A8000 CP-8050 controller, ensuring seamless integration into existing
systems.
