Siemens Mobility has been selected by Ontario’s
local public operator Metrolinx to provide track, signal, and right-of-way
maintenance services for the agency’s railway infrastructure system that makes
up the West Region of Toronto. The contract includes service for three years
with an additional two-year option. Siemens Mobility’s suite of digital tools
and software will complement the knowledge and expertise their teams possess
with the
intelligent use of rail data to provide Metrolinx with
superior service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Siemens Mobility is the system integrator and
reliable partner for on time delivery of the city-shaping project Sydney Metro
– Western Sydney Airport, the new metro railway line that will service between
St Marys, the new Western Sydney International Airport and the
Western Sydney Aerotropolis. The company has been awarded
a contract to deliver 12 automated, driverless 3-car metro trains, a purpose built
depot, the digital rail infrastructure including signalling, electrification, telecoms
and platform screen doors as well as system integration, testing and
commissioning. The company will also complete a 15-year maintenance contract.
Siemens Mobility is delivering the turnkey project as a member of the Parklife
Metro consortium with its partners Webuild, RATP Dev, Siemens Financial
Services and Plenary Group, all with strong international experience in
delivering infrastructure projects. The Siemens Mobility portion of the contract is 900 million Euro.

Between now and 2030, a state-of-the-art digital train
control system from Siemens Mobility will be installed as an upgrade to the
conventional train control system used by operator Hamburger Hochbahn
(HOCHBAHN) on its U2 and U4 subway lines. The new technology, known as CBTC
(communication-based train control), will allow trains to run at shorter
intervals of only 100 seconds, which will put significantly more trains on the
track in the future, thereby increasing capacity. In addition, CBTC also
improves punctuality, reliability, and energy consumption.

With immediate
effect, DB is completely converting the S8 line to its newest generation of
trains. The modern trains with their distinctive flat front are already
reliably operating on three of Berlin’s S-Bahn lines. As of today, around
60,000 passengers using the S8 will also benefit from better information, more
security cameras, and additional space for wheelchair users, strollers and
bicycles. Rather than operating with four cars, the new trains have six. In
addition, the S8 line has been extended from Birkenwerder to Wildau via Zeuthen
during peak traffic periods. Together with the S46, the two lines now ensure
environmentally friendly connections to the nearby Studentenstadt.

Siemens Mobility has received three new
certifications by Germany’s TÜV SÜD for meeting the international cybersecurity
standard IEC 62443. These new certifications cover products and solutions associated with the Rolling Stock and Rail
Infrastructure Business Units, including high-speed trains, regional trains,
metros, trams, and locomotives, as well as rolling stock components. They also apply
to first products installed in the critical infrastructure solutions. Together,
all these aspects represent the largest scope worldwide ever certified in
accordance with IEC 62443.

With the commissioning of the new state-of-the-art
automated metro Line B in Rennes, Siemens Mobility has once again demonstrated
its leading expertise in delivering fully automated turnkey metro systems. Crossing
the Rennes metropolitan area along a South-West axis, Line B has 15 stations
spread over 13 km. 20 years after the first metro line in Rennes opened with
VAL technology (Line A), Rennes Métropole and SEMTCAR renewed their trust in
Siemens Mobility to equip the second metro line in the city with the new
generation of the automated metro system, Cityval.

Siemens Mobility has been
awarded a contract by NS Group N.V, the Dutch Railways, to retrofit 176 ViRM trains
with the latest European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 technology. With
the ETCS Level 2 upgrade, the fleet will be able to operate with a greater
degree of efficiency for the remainder of its lifetime, while also meeting the
latest European standards for rail safety interoperability. Siemens Mobility
will provide the ETCS onboard unit
equipment and installation support, as well as seven years of maintenance
services for the system. The retrofitted vehicles will be delivered in the
period 2023–2027.

The
modernization of Line 4 of the Paris Metro has been completed with the highest
grade of automation and the automatic driverless metros have now begun revenue
service. The digitalization
and optimization of Line 4 will allow RATP to safely increase frequency by reducing intervals
between trains from 105 to 85 seconds. Chosen in
2015 by RATP to automate Line 4, Siemens Mobility supplied their digitalized
communication and CBTC signaling systems to modernize the network. After a
trial run with no passengers that began in June, the automation of Line 4 is now
a reality. More automatic driverless shuttles will be introduced into the
line's traffic over time to achieve full automation by the end of 2023.

Nahverkehrsservice Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH, and Verkehrsgesellschaft
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mbH, signed the transport contract for the Elbe-Spree
network in Brandenburg an der Havel. As part of the ceremony, one of
the new six-car Desiro HC trains was presented in Magdeburg and Brandenburg an
der Havel by train manufacturer Siemens Mobility GmbH.
