ETH Zurich,
one of the world’s most renowned universities, has just opened a unique
research facility: the Zero Carbon Building Systems (ZCBS) Lab. It allows research
into the behavior of building components and systems in different climate
zones. The new building, located on the university campus in Zurich, comprises
two floors with different test cells, climate chambers, and experimentation
rooms. As part of its existing industrial partnership with ETH Zurich, Siemens
has equipped the new research facility with state-of-the-art digital building technologies,
including for building operations and management. The technologies are part of
the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.

Connect Box, an open and easy-to-use IoT solution designed to manage small to
medium-sized buildings. The latest addition to the Siemens Xcelerator
portfolio, Connect Box is a user-friendly approach for monitoring building performance,
with the potential to optimize energy efficiency by up to 30 percent and to substantially
improve indoor air quality in small to medium sized buildings such as schools, retail

easier, faster and at scale.

Siemens
has been awarded a contract to upgrade the distribution management
system and establish an advanced metering infrastructure for Alexandria
Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) – Lot 1 of a JICA-funded loan. As
subsidiary of the state-owned utility Egyptian Electricity Holding Company
(EEHC), AEDC is responsible for the distribution network of Alexandria
Governorate, the second most populated governorate in Egypt. During the
upcoming 30 months, Siemens will be implementing an ADMS control center for the
West Alexandria region and a control center to supervise all distribution
control centers in Alexandria.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Shell Global Solutions International BV have
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing
low-carbon and highly efficient energy solutions that support the energy
transition. The agreement will focus on projects that produce green hydrogen
for industrial applications at Shell and its customers, as well as enhancing
collaboration in the areas of biofuels and circular chemistry. Under the MoU,
Siemens and Shell will create solutions that increase energy efficiency and
generate sustainable power, consisting of, but not limited to, digitalization,
efficient networks, and the production, distribution, and application of green
hydrogen. The partnership, inked with Siemens’ Electrification and Automation
business unit, has the potential to strengthen synergies for both parties. While
Siemens intends to work with Shell to accelerate the latter’s transition towards
net-zero operations, Shell seeks to supply Siemens and its affiliates with low
carbon products that reduce emissions across the supply chain, in Siemens’
operations, and in the use phase of Siemens products, consisting of but not
limited to supply of biofuels.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure’s RDG200 thermostat series now offers a model that is
natively equipped with a CO2sensor and control functions. They allow the indoor air quality to be monitored
and adjusted to ensure a healthy and productive indoor air climate at all times
for people in the building, while maintaining efficient operation. When the air
quality deteriorates because the CO2concentration rises, the ventilation system
is automatically adjusted and ensures that the right amount of fresh air is
provided to the space.

Siemens has finished installing a
leading-edge HVAC system in the new S-building which has extended the A.S.Z.
(general city hospital) campus in Aalst, Belgium. The building technology
experts have also supplied the CCTV and access control systems. All air
conditioning, ventilation and security functions have been brought together in
the Siemens management system, Desigo CC. This makes it much easier to operate
for both healthcare personnel and patients, thereby providing more comfortable
rooms and reducing energy consumption at the same time. Siemens is therefore
helping the A.S.Z. in Aalst to meet the Belgian Supreme Council of Health's
increasingly stringent requirements and standards for energy efficiency in
buildings.

today inaugurated a new Research and Development (R&D) facility in the
presence of Swiss Economy Minister Guy Parmelin, Canton Zug Government
Councilor Silvia Thalmann-Gut and Roland Busch, the President and CEO of
Siemens AG, to mark the completion of its CHF250 million investment and the
seven-year construction of its climate-neutral campus in Zug, Switzerland.
