- ETH Zurich runs unique research project on automation and energy supply for buildings in different climate zones
- Project includes one-of-a-kind artificial sun
- Siemens supplies digital building technologies, part of Siemens Xcelerator, for lab
ETH Zurich,
one of the world’s most renowned universities, has just opened a unique
research facility: the Zero Carbon Building Systems (ZCBS) Lab. It allows research
into the behavior of building components and systems in different climate
zones. The new building, located on the university campus in Zurich, comprises
two floors with different test cells, climate chambers, and experimentation
rooms. As part of its existing industrial partnership with ETH Zurich, Siemens
has equipped the new research facility with state-of-the-art digital building technologies,
including for building operations and management. The technologies are part of
the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.

- Siemens, Bausch+Ströbel, Bosch Rexroth, CADENAS, Festo, HARTING, SICK, Phoenix Contact, and WAGO use the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) to exchange digital twins in engineering
- Defined AAS standard is crucial for the interoperable and efficient exchange of digital twin data
- At Hannover Messe, partners demonstrate a specific application with machinery manufacturer Bausch+Ströbel
- Collaboration in an open ecosystem from component manufacturer to the customer
At Hannover Messe 2023, Siemens, Bausch+Ströbel,
Bosch Rexroth, CADENAS, Festo, HARTING, SICK, Phoenix Contact, and WAGO jointly
demonstrate how the Asset Administration Shell standard can be implemented in
practice. The companies have exchanged digital twin data according to the AAS
standard and evaluated the added value based on a specific application with
machinery manufacturer Bausch+Ströbel. In doing so, the nine partners thus made
the interoperable digital twin based on an Asset Administration Shell from the
component manufacturer to the customer possible for the first time.
