- Monte Rosa Hut in Swiss Alps modernized with new battery storage solution
- Solar power ensures sustainable, efficient energy supply
- 8.6 tons of lead batteries replaced with 2.7 tons of lithium batteries
The “Bergkristall” (Mountain Crystal), a mountain hut situated at an altitude of 2,883 meters in the Monte Rosa Massif of the Valais Alps, has been largely energy self-sufficient since 2010. Along with thermal solar collectors, a photovoltaic system integrated in the hut’s southern facade ensures a high degree of energy self-sufficiency and a reliable energy supply. Since 2010, all of the building’s performance data, such as solar energy generated and battery capacity, have been bundled in Siemens Navigator, the cloud-based building performance platform.
- One single device for lines of up to 500 km
- Monitoring for powered, unpowered or grounded lines
- Highly precise localization of line faults
- Simplifies maintenance and increases network reliability
Siemens Smart Infrastructure recently launched its new PowerLink CM, a condition monitoring solution for high-voltage AC and DC transmission lines. To ensure reliable power supply, optimize grid utilization and prevent blackouts the device is designed to precisely locate faults in the transmission grid and continuously track line conditions. One single PowerLink CM device is sufficient to monitor line lengths of up to 500 km. Faults as well as line condition can be detected in powered, unpowered or grounded lines. Fault reports are received by the affected substation and are forwarded from there to the control room. For continuous line monitoring, the device can be connected to MindSphere, the open cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) platform from Siemens, which facilitates transparent processing of all line data in the cloud. This allows grid operators to analyze status reports and optimize maintenance activities.
- Charging, medium and low-voltage technology for two carports at Hamburger Hochbahn AG’s Alsterdorf bus depot
- Space-saving installation as technical center on carport’s roof
- Important step for transitioning to climate-friendly local transport in Hamburg
Siemens Smart Infrastructure won a major contract from Hamburger Hochbahn, the largest local transport provider in the Hanseatic city. Siemens will equip two of the six carports at the Alsterdorf bus depot with a total of 96 charging points as well as medium and low-voltage technology. Operations are scheduled to start in summer 2021. With a total of 240 parking spaces, it is one of the largest and most modern bus depots for electric buses in Europe.
- Siemens and Hassan Allam Construction to build new control center located in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital
- Customer is Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company
- Latest software to monitor, manage and control extra-high voltage transmission networks and power generation plants across the country
- Contract worth more than EUR 45 Mio.
Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company has awarded a contract to the consortium consisting of Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Hassan Allam Construction to build the new National Energy Control Center in the New Administrative Capital of Egypt. The country’s new power grid control center will deploy advanced software and equipment to monitor, manage and control extra-high voltage (220 kV and 500 kV) transmission networks and power generation stations across Egypt. The necessary technologies will be included in the new control center for future grid expansion while maintaining secure energy supply, including intermittent renewable energy sources and storage. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
