Together
with its partners and customers, Siemens is driving the digital transformation
of economies through its open digital business platform Siemens Xcelerator,
launched on June 29, 2022. The platform consists of a comprehensive, curated
portfolio; a powerful ecosystem of partners and a marketplace for customers,
partners and developers and strives to make digitalization easier, faster and
at scale. Today, Siemens announced two new partnerships related to the Siemens
Xcelerator platform.

On October
12, 1847, Siemens started operations as a small factory workshop with ten
employees manufacturing pointer telegraphs, in a courtyard tucked away behind a
building on Schoeneberger Strasse in Berlin. Now, 175 years later, Siemens has more
than 300,000 employees around the world and, with around €62 billion in annual
revenue, is one of the world’s largest technology powerhouses. On
October 1, 1847, 11 days before operations began, Werner von Siemens and
precision mechanic Johann Georg Halske had completed the company’s official
founding. Today, October 12, 2022, Siemens is marking its 175th birthday with a
celebratory event at the Schaltwerk factory in the Siemensstadt section of
Berlin. German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, together with numerous guests
from the realms of politics, business and academia will join the anniversary event.

Siemens Mobility, along with consortium partners ST
Engineering and Stadler, have been awarded an Electrical and Mechanical (E&M)
turnkey contract to deliver the Yellow Line for Kaohsiung Metro. Siemens
Mobility will provide its state-of-the-art CBTC signaling technology with GoA4
functionality, which will allow for full automated train operations (ATO). Furthermore,
Siemens Mobility will deliver its highly reliable and precise Airlink radio
communication system which will facilitate the communication of wayside and
onboard signaling equipment, that will be installed on the new trains.

Eckard
Eberle (57) will be appointed as the new CEO of Siemens Global Business
Services (GBS) with effect from October 1, 2022. He will report directly to
Judith Wiese, member of the Siemens AG Managing Board and Chief People and
Sustainability Officer (CPSO). GBS designs, develops and operates efficient and
innovative business services for Siemens AG, Siemens Healthineers AG, Siemens
Energy AG and other companies. Eckard Eberle succeeds Hannes Apitzsch (64), who
has led GBS since 2019 as CEO and is entering retirement after more than 40
years at the company. Hannes Apitzsch will continue to support Siemens in an
advisory capacity until December 31, 2022.

In a project that will run until the end of 2024, Siemens
and 16 partners will facilitate advances in the driverless operation of
regional trains with the aid of artificial intelligence (AI). Within the “safe.trAIn”
project, which the German government is subsidizing, there is a budget of €23 million
available for this task. Solutions for meeting the requirements in this highly
regulated and standardized environment have the potential to substantially boost
the efficiency and sustainability of regional railway transportation.

Siemens Mobility has received three new
certifications by Germany’s TÜV SÜD for meeting the international cybersecurity
standard IEC 62443. These new certifications cover products and solutions associated with the Rolling Stock and Rail
Infrastructure Business Units, including high-speed trains, regional trains,
metros, trams, and locomotives, as well as rolling stock components. They also apply
to first products installed in the critical infrastructure solutions. Together,
all these aspects represent the largest scope worldwide ever certified in
accordance with IEC 62443.

Siemens
Mobility presents the Mireo Plus B battery train to the public for the first
time at InnoTrans 2022. The Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge
Baden-Württemberg (SFBW) has ordered 27 Mireo Plus B trains from Siemens
Mobility in 2020. The two-car electric trainsets with
120 seats can operate on rail routes with or without overhead power lines
thanks to their battery hybrid drive and are scheduled to operate in Network 8
of the Ortenau regional system. Delivery of the multiple units is scheduled
between June and December 2023.

With the commissioning of the new state-of-the-art
automated metro Line B in Rennes, Siemens Mobility has once again demonstrated
its leading expertise in delivering fully automated turnkey metro systems. Crossing
the Rennes metropolitan area along a South-West axis, Line B has 15 stations
spread over 13 km. 20 years after the first metro line in Rennes opened with
VAL technology (Line A), Rennes Métropole and SEMTCAR renewed their trust in
Siemens Mobility to equip the second metro line in the city with the new
generation of the automated metro system, Cityval.

Siemens AG and
UN Women Germany committed to jointly support the implementation of the African
Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI), an Africa continental program which aims to
provide comprehensive training in information and communication technology (ICT)
as well as coding and leadership skills to girls and young women in Africa. In
this connection, the partners emphasized the vital role education plays in addressing
gender inequalities and accelerating the empowerment of women and girls. The
project’s target group comprises young women aged 17 to 25 from Kenya, Rwanda,
Senegal, South Africa and Uganda. Within two years, as many as 625 young women will
benefit from the partnership; all offerings are free of charge for the
participants. By 2023, Siemens will initially provide €500,000 for this cause and
will support two-week, full-time coding camps in the five countries with digital
literacy, programming as well as personal development skills. Specifically, the
coding camps will cover topics such as robotics, the Internet of Things,
animation, 3D printing, gender equality and women’s empowerment, leadership,
and communications.

retrofit 176 ViRM double deck rail vehicles with the latest ETCS onboard
technology

maintenance services for ETCS system
Siemens Mobility has been
awarded a contract by NS Group N.V, the Dutch Railways, to retrofit 176 ViRM trains
with the latest European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 technology. With
the ETCS Level 2 upgrade, the fleet will be able to operate with a greater
degree of efficiency for the remainder of its lifetime, while also meeting the
latest European standards for rail safety interoperability. Siemens Mobility
will provide the ETCS onboard unit
equipment and installation support, as well as seven years of maintenance
services for the system. The retrofitted vehicles will be delivered in the
period 2023–2027.
