Siemens supports WUNsiedler Weg – Energie
Wunsiedel, 05 February 2018
At the same time, SWW and Siemens also opened the "Haus der Energiezukunft" (House of the Energy Future) in Wunsiedel. Its permanent exhibition teaches visitors about the innovative "WUNsiedler Weg Energie 2.0" initiative and shows how the energy transition can be implemented technologically as well as cost-effectively with the right business models.
With the "WUNsiedler Weg" road map, SWW is pursuing the long-term goal of supplying the distribution grid exclusively with renewable energy sources and thus making the system semi-autonomous and black start-capable. As part of this project, SWW has already built several wind energy plants, a solar park, a virtual natural gas power plant, and several biomass thermal power plants.
For the further development of a service area able to operate in isolation, the municipal utilities company relies on a technology partnership with Siemens. "Installing the battery storage system is an important part of the road map," says Marco Krasser, Managing Director of SWW Wunsiedel GmbH.
Additional projects will follow, including a power-to-gas plant and the consistent, end-to-end networking of data throughout the system on the IoT platform MindSphere.
