Siemens and Industrie 4.0 in the US: two customer references
The selection of the U.S. to be the partner country for this years' Hannover Messe underlines the momentum that manufacturing and automation have gained in the United States. In addition to low labor costs and cheap energy, ensuring digitalization of the whole production process is a key to competitiveness.
Also "President Obama's participation in Hannover Messe – a first for a sitting U.S. President – presents a unique opportunity to showcase American innovation and ingenuity and to highlight the United States as a prime investment destination," said the White House Press Office in a release.
For many years, the U.S. manufacturing sector has evoked thoughts of economic decline, heavy job cuts and a hopeless outlook. In recent years, however, a foundation has been laid for improving the industrial landscape – and thus for restoring faith in manufacturing.
Siemens' next-generation software is used in every phase of product development, enabling manufacturers to optimize and customize equipment that touches American lives every day.

Local Motors
Local Motors designs, builds and sells vehicles via a platform that combines global-co-creation with local micro-manufacturing to bring hardware innovations – like the world's first 3D-printed car – to market at unprecedented speed. A Siemens PLM (Solid Edge) customer, Local Motors has opened a 45,000 square-foot facility at National Harbor, consisting of a lab for co-creation, research, technology, education and community events, a showroom, a retail store and a build floor for light assembly of products and vehicles. This is Local Motors' first location on the East Coast, and the first in the world to debut the first fleet of 3-D printed cars.
The Local Motors production is also innovative: according to the company, 75 percent of its LM3D model comes out of a 3D printer.
