Dedicated safety system design made easy using Simatic SIS compact
Stand-alone Safety Instrumented System for use in critical areas in process industries
Customized solution for functional safety for small to medium-sized plant projects
Pre-configured packages based on proven Simatic components
Connection to any process control system via Modbus/TCP
The Simatic SIS compact system from Siemens offers a new, stand-alone and flexible Safety Instrumented System for use in critical areas in the process industry. The combination of hardware and software components provides safety functions based on proven automation technology. The Simatic SIS compact system allows easy design of dedicated safety systems, the so called Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), for monitoring potentially hazardous processes in the process industry and for protecting people, the environment, and the process plant. SIS monitor these processes and automatically intervene as soon as a permissible operating range is exceeded, such as too high pressure or temperature; alternatively, they can notify operating personnel to intervene. This minimizes the risk of potentially hazardous conditions.

Safety applications such as Burner Management Systems (BMS), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), Fire&Gas (F&G) applications as well as High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS) can be achieved easily and safely using the Simatic SIS compact.
The basic hardware is a CPU 410SIS controller. The software package uses Simatic S7 F systems and ensures that safety-oriented, fault-tolerant and standard programs can run on the same CPU.
For an optimum match to specific safety requirements, the Simatic SIS compact system is available in four pre-configured bundles. Basic and Extended packages, each in a Single and Redundancy version. They can be connected to any process control system via Modbus/TCP. The two so-called extended packages contain additional OS software for HMI functions, such as the Simatic Safety Matrix. Highly available systems with respect to the CPU, communication and distributed I/O systems can be created using the respective Redundancy-variant.
The TÜV certificated Safety Lifecycle Management Tool "Simatic Safety Matrix" allows safety applications up to SIL 3, in accordance with IEC 61508, to be used with the extended packages. It can be used for the engineering of safety applications as well as for their easy operation and monitoring.
