Turkmenistan chooses Siemens as technology partner for infrastructure expansion

Turkmenistan intends to drive the expansion of its infrastructure with the help of Siemens technology. This decision was finalized today in Ashgabat, the country’s capital, by representatives of the Turkmen government and Siemens. “We’re very pleased to be collaborating with Turkmenistan in the technological field. We have the products and solutions that the country needs to meet its growing requirements in the areas of energy, clean drinking water, mobility and healthcare. Our ecofriendly technologies will enable us to drive the country’s long-term economic and social development,” said Siegfried Russwurm, who is responsible in Siemens’ Managing Board for the company’s business in Central Asia.

The state intends to use Siemens technologies from all three of the company’s Sectors – Energy, Industry and Healthcare. In a first step, Siemens’ Healthcare Sector will supply medical devices for the hearing-impaired and establish specialized audiology center in Turkmenistan. Siemens also intends to support the country in training highly qualified specialists and in expanding local infrastructure expertise.

With these steps, the company is reinforcing its business relationships with Turkmenistan, which were resumed in 1997 when the company opened an office in Ashgabat. At their meeting in February of this year, Siemens President and CEO Peter Löscher and Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, the President of Turkmenistan, laid the basis for intensifying cooperation between the Central Asian country and Siemens. Since then, several initial projects have already been launched – in the healthcare sector, among others. In March, for example, Siemens supplied medical equipment to the Oncology Center and the International Center for the Treatment of Head and Neck Diseases in the country’s capital.
