Start of production of eight further high-speed trains for Russia
On December 3, 2012 Valentin Gapanovich (center), Vice President of Russian Railways (RZD), Jochen Eickholt (r), CEO of the Siemens Rail Systems Division, and Ansgar Brockmeyer (2.l), CEO Siemens Business Unit High Speed and Commuter Rail, gave the go-ahead to start production of the eight further Velaro RUS high-speed trains which RZD had ordered in December 2011. In Russia they go by the name of "Sapsan", meaning Peregrine Falcon. "Our trains are symbolic of Russian Railways. They are fast, safe and reliable. And we take on responsibility for maintenance", commented Jochen Eickholt as production got under way.
