Electromobility 1905 - 2010: Pioneering feats of the past inspire the future

Berlin, 30 April 2010

A pioneer of electric mobility – the Electric Viktoria

One-hundred-and-five years ago, the Electric Viktoria was one of the first vehicles to drive through Berlin solely on electric power. The car, which was manufactured by the Siemens - Schuckert plant in Berlin, served primarily as an elegant hotel taxi that had a top speed of 30 km/h and a range of 80 km.

One-hundred-and-five years ago, the Electric Viktoria was one of the first vehicles to drive through Berlin solely on electric power. After traveling 80 km, the car's 480 kg battery had to be recharged or replaced with the help of a pulley.

eRuf sports car - the attraction of electric mobility

In cooperation with the car manufacturer Ruf Automobile GmbH, Siemens has been using the eRuf sports car to demonstrate how attractive electric vehicles can be. The electric sports car is based on the Porsche 911 and comes with charging technology that enables drivers to charge the vehicle at public charging stations.

The eRuf Stormster is manufactured by Ruf Automobile GmbH and as a demonstration car and has a Porsche Cayenne chassis. The electric SUV can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in nine seconds. It has a range of about 180 kilometers and a very high torque of 920 Nm. Siemens supplies the electric motor and the integrated charging technology.

Fast-charge station - recharging in record time

In the future, electric cars will be equipped with fast-charge functions and integrated charging technology systems. Because these systems operate at substantially higher voltages and currents, the batteries can be rapidly recharged. Siemens researchers are currently developing a 120 kW system that recharges batteries within a few minutes, which is comparable with today's filling stations.
